Hockey is a team sport. It's not about having one superstar that carries the team (well unless it's Crosby). If Baertschi is able to make an impact his first year and the young talent already on the team steps it up, that could be the difference maker for the Flames.
If Baertschi is able to become a 60 point guy and guys like Backlund, Horak, Carson, etc.. manage to find their groove and become 40 point guys, it could easily be enough to make the Flames, maybe not favorites, but contenders.
Take a look at the standings this year and look at the teams that have come out of nowhere. How many of them are doing so due to a sudden infusion of superstar youth. None.
