The Oilers are going to draft Yakupov and thus be loaded at forward.

We have a ton of defensive depth.

What do you think?

There's no way the Oilers trade Eberle. I don't see the interest being there for Gagner.

Gagner is young and very talented. He's the top 6 forward we need.

Edmonton has two problems:

1. In the future its going to be hard as hell for them to keep RNH, Yakupov, Hall, Eberle, and Gagner together because of the cap.

2. Their defense sucks.

Right now, the first problem is kind of irrelevant because those guys aren't making any money. But if they want to improve their D they're going to have to make a move, and I think the Rangers would be good trading partners.

I see Gagner as the most likely to get moved. RNH, Hall, and Eberle already have achieved higher point totals than Gagner and are younger.

No, this is exactly the kind of trade Tambo will be hoping for. See if he can get someone to bite on guys like MPS and Gagner for a proven defensive defensemen so when the former flop Tambo can laugh at pulling a Sather.

If the Rangers aren't Getting that 1st, Hall, RNH, or Eberle, it's not worth it to hand them any of our defensive depth.

So realistically the answer is, no.

Gagner is a small-ish 22 year old center who put up less points than Derek Stepan... and he put up 8 points in a single game. He shoots right, which I believe means he'd be better served playing RW if you move him away from center. I think the missing piece is on the left side, not the right.

I'd rather not lose an asset and hope Kreider can match his 40-ish point production.

How about we give up Thomas Sauer McIlrith or Erixon and Zucs along with two firsts? For Eberle

Yeah, but why would the Oilers trade their young, clutch PPG winger who is arguably their best player now.

because they are loaded with young forwards and need young defenseman.

So they trade their best forward? By your logic, if we were to trade from our defensive depth for a forward, McDonagh would be the first one shown the door.

despite being loaded, they still managed to come in 2nd. yeah, they could use d but if they are moving a big name player, they are gonna need to be able to fill out their d-depth in one fell swoop. perhaps they'd be better off trading Yakupov for 2 starting D men. Either way, they definitely have options. I just don't see them moving Eberle at all. Their leading scorer + he's a Saskatchewan boy. Their best move would be to trade Hemsky, especially after they gave him that ridiculous contract which is exactly why they won't be able to trade him. Another option is to trade down for a similarly high pick + a top 4 d-man and draft Dumba or one of the many top ranked D-men in the draft. For example, would the Islanders trade Hamonic and their 1st? Or perhaps even better Subban + a 1st for their 1st + ?

Because its an area of strength and they have a chance at significantly improving an area of weakness

Where's berneister?

I'm sure he's punching away at his calculator getting the salaries matched up for all his proposals for Hall.

Gagner is a mediocre player. Without one huge night, he's an under 40-point player. Eberle is someone I would trade a lot for.

I don't think I've ever actually seen him match up salaries. Usually his proposals would just have the players and then ask if it works VALUE WISE (has to be in caps).

the Oilers would never trade their best offensive player in Ebele away. no chance.

Are you suggesting that for Eberle? Because that is hilarious.

NHL network had a bit on Yakupov and he was speaking English.

I really liked the kids attitude and of course his highlights were pretty sick too. The moment I found out the Oilers won the lottery I started thinking about all the ridiculous talent they're going to have up front. I won't lie I thought about the possibility of Sather making a deal with his old buddies in Alberta to finally get the Rangers that #1 pick. And I'm sure they need some good young D...but I know that conversation would start with McD +

What kind of deal would get it done?
