Schenn is becoming extremely under rated and written off on these boards. It's amazing how many people have not watched him play, yet make generalizations about his potential based on his stat line.
He's been incredible lately. a future captain calibre guy who does everything. He most likely wont have the opportunity to be a captain for the Flyers, but he has that "it" factor. Intangibles if you will. When you watch him you just get that sense that he's something special. He needs to get a bit stronger and he needs to gain a bit more confidence with the puck, but he will be a stud in this league soon enough. Giroux, Schenn and Couturier as our future at center looks pretty good to me. With Giroux being our elite #1 offensive center, Schenn being our #2A two way center and Couturier being our big bodied #2B two way shutdown center.
I wouldn't trade either of Schenn or Couturier for picks at this point, unless there were a real stud type bona-fide #1 defenseman in this draft. Granted, the team that held that pick most likely wouldn't trade it for Schenn or Couturier in that circumstance, but that's what it would take for me to consider moving either one of them.
IMO, the only way Schenn or Couturier are moved at this point, is if a guy named Shea Weber is coming back. Obviously it would be as a part of a package, but i honestly think that's what it would take for Homer to consider moving either one.
a deal of the canadiens first pick along with their 33rd overall for Schenn and a 3rd is probably fair value, realistically. However it just doesn't make sense for the Flyers at this point. I'd rather be patient with Schenn and watch him become what i know he will become.
I agree with this, the value is alright just don't see the point of taking the risk from the Flyers standpoint. The player picked there (3rd OV) could just as easily flop as succeed at least with Schenn the Flyers have a first hand view of what they have so far, its a gamble I wouldn't be willing to take. The Flyers already made these types of bold gambles last off-season trading Richards and Carter for a abundance of youth (we got lucky as heck with that Columbus pick) don't really want to roll the dice and do that again. Finally, since coming back from the early injury bug I like what I see in Schenn, an unpolished Mike Richards type player as off right now, and I too what like to see him continue developing in Philly.
hab fans are undervaluing schenn lol look at our depth at center
giroux
briere
coutourier
talbot
schenn
I wouldn't want to move him when jagr retires we would have 1 less offensive threat schenn is a stud richie2.0 IMO.
the value of MTL's 1st + MTL's 2nd for Schenn + PHI's 3rd seems like good value but i dont think philly does it.
i mean, if PHI really wanted a dman instead of one of their two centermen (in this case Couturier), they could have drafted Dougie Hamilton last year, who i personally think will be better than any dman coming out of this draft.
Actually, I would like the Habs to trade their 1st pick + (???) for Couturier OR Huberdeau.
Couturier has jumped in a bit more noticeably but I'm not really sure he's ultimately going to turn out better than Schenn. I don't know, I seem to be in a minority, but I still really like Schenn. I only see the Flyers a handful of times a season, but I have liked Schenn. He seems to have some edge to him that I'd really like on the Habs. And he isn't so far off ripping it up on various stages. I wouldn't hold a lack of... what... instant NHL impact?... against him. I think he has great upside. I'd trade any pick after #1 overall for him. (Or for Couturier).
If it came down to the #1 overall pick... hmm, I guess that'd be too much. But still, I really have a favourable impression of Schenn from what I've seen, so I'm not really sure where the downgrading of him has come from.
Multiple viewings of Schenn in the last 3-4 years.
Certainly a very, very good player, but you hope to draft a better player than Brayden Schenn with the 3rd/4th overall.
Ok but in what way is he over rated?
Have you watched him recently? He's 20 years old. Players take time to develop, especially the type of game schenn plays. Not everyone comes into the league at a ppg pace. A player that's dominated every single level of hockey he's played is hardly over rated. While he hasn't put up dominating numbers in the NHL yet, he's certainly showed that he has the talent and the ability to.

Go back through the history of 3rd overall picks in the last 15 or so years and Schenn looks quite good going forward in terms of where he's at and what his upside still is.
