Not sure how many of you out there love to fish. I wanted to start a thread on types of species caught and compare with others. What species have you always wanted but have never caught? Do you like to fish in lakes, rivers, or saltwater? etc.
Anyone ever catch anything shown on the TV shows River Monsters or Monster Fish?
I will start it off....
So far I've caught (lives in Alberta so not many species here)...
Never caught anything like on River Monsters, but i did catch a Bulls Eye Snakehead (on some kind of little lizard/gecko) in FL canal last summer. See my Avatar. The thing was mean, but alligator gar of about the same size fought much better.
Also, it was one of the tastiest fish i have ever eaten.
I mostly try to fly fish, but not so much in recent years. I usually try to head up the the Eastern Sierra Nevada's once a year but it has been a few years. I recently came back from a trip to Yellowstone. I had a few strikes just below the Jackson lake dam on some Wollie Buggers but I tied crappy knots and the fly came off. I also fished the Firehole in the park, but I got skunked. Combination of fishing in the afternoon with high winds and the temp was pretty warm.
I made it to Alaska a few years ago and caught a bunch of Rainbow Trout just outside of Talkeetna. It was the easiest fishing I ever had, my wife hired a guide for me and I had him all to myself. I want to go back to Alaska and fish for some Salmon and Halibut.
We usually go to La Paz Mexico every year but we cancelled the trip the last two years because of the cartels. But we catch Dorado, Wahoo, Pargo, Yellow Tail and a few other varieties.
Don't fish that often but when I do go I always end up loving how it. I generally just fish along the Fraser River for Sockeye Salmon, when I go for about 5 hours with a couple people we generally end up with about 25-30 Salmon every time.
i grew up in michigan and have caught everything that swims there except sturgon walleye and smallies are my favorites . i now live in kentucky and i have to say the fishing here is nothing like home but its not bad.. my best fishing memory was catching my first nice muskie when i was about 13 ...a 22 pounder not a monster but it was amazing at that age...
I don't fish as much as I used to but my favorite fishing grounds were in Ontario and Quebec.. Loved catching Northern Pike and Bass . BC doesnt have that same kind of fishing to be honest, its mostly salt water and trout fishing.
So far Ive caught:
4 Northern Pike
2 Bass (Small Mouth I believe)
3 or 4 Crapee's
4 Cat fish
countless amounts of Sun fish and Perch
In BC ive caught
3 Kokanee (a kind of trout)
I went Salt water fishing in Prince Rupert no idea what kind of fish I caught..
Actually, Kokanee are land locked salmon, related to Sockeye.
Anyhow, I havent been fishing for several years, but in the lakes around here I have caught lots of rainbow trout and a few kokanee. My father and I used to travel north to The Queen Charlottes every couple years and caught lots of different fish; Spring salmon, Chinook, Halibut (the most boring fishing I have ever done, taste great but is just dreadful to fish for), different types of cod and snapper and lots of junk fish like dogfish.
Have gone out for Largemouth, smallmouth, catfish, suckers, walleye, carp, perch, pike, and so forth
Anyone have any advice on a small afforable freshwater boat or kayak to get? I'm looking for something with a trolling motor maybe for ponds, lakes, etc.
Every year I go to this camp and catch Rainbow Trout. It's fun, but cleaning them can take a lot of time. I've also caught Catfish, Sunfish, Machenauh Trout in Lake Tahoe, and Bass. Haven't done ocean fishing though, and probably won't.

I hope to catch:
Marlin
Ahi Tuna
I did fish once. ... and threw the fish back in the water. couldn't bring myself to eat it. I wouldn't even be able to tell the difference between a mackerel and a tuna.
