Hemsky's contract expires when RNH's does, and Horcoff's 10 team NTC expires at the same time. 1st overall picks are in the range of $3.75m per, and will move up (hopefully) in their second contract because of great play. $6m per? Cap will likely move to 70+, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Edmonton's actually looking pretty good, for a young team with this many 1st overall picks.

This sounds a lot like sour grapes to me. IMO the oilers are doing a standard rebuild, just like Chi, Pitts, Wash and LA did.

Well I can tell you who's fault it isn't and that is the fans.

Fans can make up excuses for their team but when it really comes down to its not their fault and we can only guess one way or the other who's fault it is (management, coach, injuries, players etc.).

That's why we have the draft to try and give teams the opportunity to build a team that will compete.

I can tell you one thing as an Oilers fan, it hasn't been fun these past few years.

1. Players have demanded trades
2. Free-agents are not willing to sign in Edmonton
3. We are losing

I can go on but what it comes down to is our fans have stuck by this team hoping that it will turn the corner and all these other fans tearing us down for sucking look at it from our perspective before posting.

I do feel bad for Columbus though and I can tell you as an oiler fan this number 1 pick really doesn't mean much to us we would have been just as happy drafting 2nd.

Man they are choked right now. Missed the playoffs for the 3rd straight year and end up with the 14th pick, and they all just threw up in their mouths a little bit watching the Oilers win draft lottery. So mad, I love it.

Pretty much.

Three years in the lottery is fairly standard for this type of rebuild.

You can be mad that the Oilers got no.1 three straight times, but it's not like they were gaurunteed to get it. It was less than 50% chance the first two years and just 18% this year.

I feel bad for Columbus but either way, the people crying about the Oilers getting another #1 pick just makes it soooo much better.

Edmonton was clearly on the ignore path three years ago. Seems like we're somewhere between laugh and fight.

Improvement, I'd say.

Not to mention who knows if the next CBA will include a franchise player exemption and/or other measures to limit the size/length of contracts.

lol at everyone trashing the Oilers.

They've been pretty embarrassing for quite some time so I don't really have an issue with them getting the high picks, especially when you throw in how hard it is to get UFA's there.

Will be nice to have, potentially, a highly competitive team back in the NW! Can get the rivalry going again.

Why are Nucks fans so angry over this anyway? Your team is going for the Cup this year, why worry and rage about Edmonton?
Because Edmonton is soon to take the division title from them as well will bring the Cup back "home" for our sixth before they ever win one... (waiting for that to come back on me...)

I figured it out - sorry, I said Troll poster, but I didn't get it.

You're Fear Factor. This was a great gag, had some of us going with the Avs fan that "would never tank." Those aren't the Avs (wink-wink, nudge-nudge.)

Now, after this draft, you're really concerned (wink-wink) Cause Edmonton has Hopkins, Hall, Eberle, now Yakupov to go with Gagner, Pajaarvi, Hartikainen, Lander, Smid, Petry, Klefbom, Dubnyk, Musil, and unknowns like Tobias Reider.

Ha!

not entirely, i hate russian hockey players with minor exceptions, i dont like the flight risk so i'd probably trade down in a draft like this (I REALLY LIKE DUMBA) and im all about fair when it comes to hockey. lol
