Yeah, I guess Ducks fans won't be able to give you much feedback on this. If I was Murray and Schultz had told me he was leaving, this would very likely get it done. Since I don't know, well, I don't know.
If Anaheim really feels that they won't be able to get a deal done, something like this will happen, although I'm sure Anaheim will want the pick outright, not conditionally, and some team may be willing to do that. If Anaheim doesn't think it will happen, this trade wouldn't happen until a few days before whatever that deadline is, I can't remember the date.
As a Leafs fan, I would be more than okay doing this. Doesn't look like there will be room for Franson in the lineup either next year or in a couple unless one or more people leave. I'm not saying it's his top choice, but I am sure that Schultz has considered signing with Toronto as I'm sure he has with many other teams. If someone trades for his rights that could be the deciding factor on who he wants to sign with as it shows they really want him.
Done deal... We can't sign em. I'm sure Murray will try his damnest for a 2nd this year though.
You dont know that. Noone does. At this point you have to trust his word. He has no reason to lie to the Ducks. If he doesnt want to play for us then he could just say it. There is no down side to telling the Ducks he wont sign. There is HUGE downside characterwise to him leading us on.

Do you mean telling the Ducks or telling the Ducks' fans? Because for all any of us on this board know, he's already told Murray that he's not going to sign. Murray's not going to call a press conference and say "He's not going to sign with us anyways, so you might as well not even offer anything and wait until he hits free-agency". Now that would be the only downside of him not wanting to sign.
If he's said he doesn't want to sign, then Murray would keep his mouth shut, let the rumors fly, and wait for some decent offers to come in.

No way in hell Murray has been told he's not going to sign by Shultz. Schultz and Murray's comments have in no way indicated it. Also, do you honestly think he wouldn't have been traded at the deadline? His value would have been much more there, then right before the draft. Tell yourself that all you want, but I guarantee you, you don't convince one Duck fan that he might have already informed Murray of that. All we have is what he said last offseason, where he indicated he will sign with Anaheim when he's done with college, and now we get to try and figure out what "weighing his options" means. A small possibility could be he told Murray after the deadline, which would have been a low move by Schultz, but Murray's comments say otherwise.

Alright, didn't mean to upset anyone. He just said there was no downside to Schultz saying he didn't want to sign. I was just saying that even if he did, probably the worst move would for either side to come out and publicly say so. That would a pretty dumb move if Murray was still looking to deal his rights for the best price.
And I'm not trying to convince anyone. I really don't care if he stonewalled Anaheim or not; whatever gives the Leafs the best chance of getting him is great by me.
