Hemsky was pretty much a second line winner after the emergence of Hall-Nuge-Ebs this season. I would say keep that top line together and put Hemsky with Gagner and Yakupov. Or move Gagner and put Paajarvi at centre on that line. Yakupov can play LW too. He's a dynamic player that plays all over the ice. he's not just an up and down guy. Yakupov may just be the perfect compliment to Hemsky's passing, and Gagner would be good backup for the two puck movers.
Theres nothing wrong with letting Yakupov (assuming he is the guy we pick) battle with Hemsky and the rest of our RWers for a spot on the team. Thats step 1B after step 1A which is getting a Russian prospect under on an ELC to attend a pro camp...NSA.
Whatever we do with him, we CANNOT trade Hemmer this offseason. It's totally unclassy and we will lose respect from all UFA's.
Agreed, not to mention its idiotic value wise. If Hemsky even comes half way back to form, he will increase his trade value tremendously.
We may just have to move someone to left wing or run 3 scoring lines if we can sign a decent UFA. I'm still in favour of going after David Jones even if we do draft Yak.
Hemsky playing on a line with Yakupov/Gagne or RNH/Eberle=a much better Hemsky than this year. He'll look better and increase his value. Maybe he'll even want to stay for a discount. Probably not, but sometimes taking a million less and knowing you'll still have value at the end of your contract is better than taking above market value and chancing that you'll fail in a new environment.
Hall - RNH - Eberle were stopped when either Hall/Eberle/RNH got injured or the coaching staff stapled their top two D on them.
Second line with scoring talent? Nail-Gags-Hemmer? That seems like a win-win combo.
awesome for Gagner as well since he would not have to face the top opposition.
I thought Hemsky played some LW when Samsanov was here. Also one poster brought up him playing with Jagr on the left, the Czech team also tried him at center. Hemsky is a good enough player, one of him Yakupov or Eberle can make the transition to the left. Hemsky is a first line talent, assuming we draft Yakupov it's amazing that we have 5 guys who fill that quota. Lets rejoice.
Does Eberle not already play the LW on the pp set up? He's usually on that side of the ice no?
I'd be rolling with Eberle-RNH-Yakupov. Gagner-Hall-Hemsky.
Yes, I would begin transitioning Hall to C. Less vulnerable to injuries and C is a more critical position when it comes to Ws. He's got the skill to make the switch.
Moving two stars to a different position? Um... no I think that's the kinda crazy stuff we only expect out of Mike Milbury.
Yakupov is probably more physically ready for the NHL than Hall was. He's over 190 pounds and he hasn't even been drafted yet. If he wants to play a physical game you can be sure he'll pump unto 205 -210 over the next few years. He'll be the slipperiest tank out there.
The big question is... with all of those cooks in the kitchen.... what will that do to each player's ego? Maybe it's just been so long since Edmonton has had a good sniper, let alone 3-4 that I forgot how to enjoy having a team full of stars.... jeez it's been long.
So move Hemsky out after all the young stars petitioned to have him resigned, What kind of loyalty does that show them when their rfa ufa come up. Treat players like disposable lighters the players will treat the organization the same.
