Thanks for posting that. It's funny that there weren't any comments on this.
I'd love to know whether the colored/gray sections on the recently released seating chart are what comprises the 14,500 number we've been seeing. If so, I think that number can be increased by adding lower bowl seating going into the corners, plus probably more seats elsewhere if 41+ extra dates a year justify the cost.
Beyond Ratner's quote regarding seats with "perfect views," there's the seating chart for the arena in Indianapolis, which closely resembles the one that's released for this game. Stated capacity with that arrangement is 14,400 for hockey. Right now, this is all speculation, however. We'll get a better idea when the Oct. 2 game is held (CBA willing). It is heading toward a sellout so the announced attendance will put this argument to bed once and for all.

Exactly Conseco Field house has the same horseshoe layout and it holds 14,400.

If flailing attendance and an aging facility don’t force the New York Islanders to the Barclays Center, an asbestos scare at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum might be the final impetus. The Brooklyn Paper reported that a state investigation found the arena has small amounts of the fiber, in seating areas, hallways and catwalks, that’s believed to cause cancer.
If a cleanup of the Nassau Coliseum stretches beyond the start of the hockey season this fall — or if the asbestos problem forces county officials to close the arena — the Islanders would be forced to find a new home, and the Barclays Center is an easy option. A deal with the National Hockey League requires the Islanders play on Long Island, which, surprisingly to some, includes Brooklyn at its western tip.
Asbestos experts said even if the current mess is cleaned up quickly, many fans will be scared away from the arena for good.
“When people know there’s asbestos involved they tend to stay away,” said Jordan Fox, an asbestos law specialist who’s not involved with the case. “Even if the government says its okay, fans won’t want to come back.”
If the government says OK but the Isles say no, can they still break their lease to Nassau County?

Another source stated that the testing agency forund asbestos in isolated areas awy from the Patrons and employees and posed no threat.
Yeah but that article was almost 2 weeks ago. It doesn't matter what each side of the litigation says. The State and Federal regulators will lay down the binding decision.

The Islanders have been drawing fans like they've had full blown asbestos in the Coliseum for a decade. In fact if they do a full report I'm sure they'll trace it back to the owner's box.
A state investigation into claims that the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum — where the New York Islanders’ hockey team plays its home games — is filled with the cancer-causing fiber could bring the team to the $1-billion, asbestos-free Prospect Heights arena if the lethal substance isn’t removed by the start of next season.
I guess the county found it okay, but the state has more concerns after their results

Bettman isn't going talk about anything outside of Nassau until it is officially out of the picture. Like how with the Coyotes he wouldn't talk about anything but Glendale and not acknowledge Quebec. It really was a much to do nothing interview where he toed the company line.
Not YET. He said the same thing 2 years ago and just repeats what Wang says for obvious reasons. Wait until the end of the year when it sinks in there's no other arena coming.
Is Brooklyn the best option? No. Queens is. But it is the only existing option now.
Bettman also said if nassau/TOH got their act together 8 years ago the arena would've cost a fraction of what it would cost now. These are some of the dumbest people ever created. The only ones dumber are those that support them.

Bettman is playing along....for now.
Pretty much this. If it at some point it becomes obvious that Brooklyn is the only local option, no matter how imperfect, he'll show up wearing a Brooklyn cap.
Yes we know he had Ratner in for a meeting a few months back. I'm sure they weren't talking about whether or not to remove the trapezoid behind the goal.
Bettman is posturing...Just like every Nassau politician has been forever. Is Brooklyn not as ideal as Nassau? Yes, but when Nassau cuts it's own head off we'll see where Bettman stands.
NHL approves Barclay's arena for play. Basically, if NYI decide to move to Brooklyn the NHL won't be an issue. Pretty big stuff now that it's confirmed.

Courting the Islanders to Barclays? Our arena, we reached agreement with National Hockey League. Now we can play ice hockey here. But in the time being we have no practical plan with any other team. But we will see in the future.

Why can't Prokhorov give Wang 400 million to just walk away from the Islanders? It'd be like you or me buying a tall latte.
Because prokhorov is a smart business man. he has a net worth of $9 billion dollars but he knows the islanders are only worth about $165 million. he won't way overpay for them. but i do think a number like $185 million might make it happen and both parties walk away happy.

Yeah, that cash cow known as NVMC allows NYI tons of revenue to be great on ice. The results since 1994 are all an illusion.
So it's blatenly obvious that you want the Isles in Queens or Brooklyn probably because it's better for you. Perhaps easier for you to get ot the games or what ever.
Your stetment however pretty much makes your creditbilty meaningless. The building has nothing to do with the on ice product. No player has evr come out saying they did not sign with the Isles because of the building. Moving to Brooklyn or anywhere else for that matter, dosen't mean Wang spends more on the on ice product. In reality, it means he probably just pockets more and claims he's still losing money like he does now.
I am glad you dream of them coming closer to you for your benefit, but the bottom line is that for a fan base that is mostly Long Island and and a good portion of Suffolk County based, a move to Queens or Brooklyn means less attendance because people are not going to make the hike in. Getting to Barcly's is not easy coming from the East.

I know that hurts, but reality is what it is.
And you're a long island resident that doesn't want them to leave because it's convenient for you. so you can make that argument from both ends of the spectrum. i live 10 minutes from the coliseum. but i unlike you and a few others. i atleast have come to the realization that nassau doesn't want the team. they have proven they could care less about the islanders. and there are alot more rangers fans on long island than there are islander fans so what does that say about long island's two counties? long island residents had a chance to voice their opinion and they voted a resounding NO!!!!! to keeping the team on long island.
