Thank god, our savior Sjogren is here, the missing center piece we secretly had all along.
Maybe we are shelving somebody or then again there is no cap limit now right>?
Swedish Jesus works in mysterious ways. His will shall become clear to those who show patience and humility.
Anyone else see Betman on Morning Joe this morning?
Guest Paul Ryan (R) from Wisconsin made a series of boring statements on how he played hockey when he was a kid, still had a scar on his chin bla-bla, and then emphatically stated that his family and in fact the entire state of Wisconsin had adopted the Minnesota Wild as their favorite team.
..then he asked Betman what he thought the Wild's chances were in the playoffs!
What a dope!

i did. i also saw that the first question the panel asked bettman came from little russert who asked about the pens/flyers line brawl. the second question was a followup on fighting. bettman spent more than half the nbc cup playoffs promo segment having to defend fighting. what the hell did msnbc think they were doing? that was a promo?

Per Whyno and Caps twitters: The Washington Capitals have recalled Mattias Sjogren from Farjestad of the SEL.
can he play goalie?
seriously, that's an odd move, to me. is it really just to have him on the practice squad? GMGM made such damning comments about him, suggesting he was a quitter and saying his ceiling in NHL was 4th-line center, due in part to slow foot speed. and now all of a sudden, at the most important point in the year, they bring him into our lockerroom? yes, it's just the practice squad (at least officially), but even so, timing seems odd.

The entire segment was a poorly produced waste of time - and I really like the show normally. Rare credit to Betman though for salvaging a small lawyered-up positive from every feeble attempt to portray the NHL as a goon riddled sideshow for idiots.
Amazing that every playoff game will be televised "nationally".. a far cry from the original Versus year. Suckit ESPN!

not odd at all. this was a breakup that both seemed to regret. mcphee probably overpromised and sjogren overreacted. meanwhile hunter is taking the team in a direction firmly into sjogren's kitchen. sjogren probably had another growing season as well.
I was not sure where to put this. Its not directly hockey per say, but any continued fear in the Russian airline industry will effect KHL as an option for Russian hockey players.
This particular aircraft appears to have several Russian diplimats on board
Is it really possible that Beagle lost 10 pounds in one night? I know they expend a lot of calories and lose some water weight, but 10 pounds? That sounds crazy.
It was also interesting to see that only 1 player acquired on deadline day (John Scott) is still active, and he's not really playing. Doesn't appear that there were any difference makers out there at a reasonable price. Three others that were acquired before deadline day (Carter, Vermette, and Zidlicky) are still in it though.
Lots of room for all the teams that spend to the cap though. You might see some crazy contracts handed out to Suter and Parise..... and Wideman.
The Cap situations of some of those teams:
Philly - $61M committed to 20 players, with Voracek needing new deal.
Vancouver - $55M to 17 players, with Raymon and Schneider needing new deals.
Buffalo - $57M committed to 18 players, with Ennis needing a new deal.
Pittsburgh - $59M committed to 18 players, with Tangradi and Niskanen needing new deals
LA - $54M committed to 20 players
Boston - $59M committed to 17 players, with Rask needing a new deal
NYR - $47M committed to 14 players, with Del Zotto and Stralman needing new deals.
Caps - $45M* committed to 17 players, with Carlson and Green needing new deals.
*The $45M includes the Poti dead weight money.
Out of those, it seems that LA and Washington have the room to be the biggest players.
