The Bargain Bin Thread: Players Available For Next To Nothing
What about a guy like Jim O'Brien? I think he's an RFA this offseason - is he going to get a qualifying offer?
JOB. will be qualified and retained for sure. He's been pretty solid since getting called up, and more importantly he can play ~40 more games before being waiver eligible. If he doesn't make the team out of camp we can just send him down. Butler and Daugavins would likely be claimed.
Horcoff and Omark. I don't think anyone will take Horcoff, but in the right situation Omark could put it together. I was thinking somewhere with some bigger top 6 forwards that could use some more skilled wingers. LA or Anaheim? Or maybe somewhere like Dallas that could use help on the power play. He could be a power play specialist, a forward version of Marc Andre Bergeron. Likely won't make the Oilers next year out of camp and will head back overseas, so mid prospect? Player buried in depth, like one of LAs young d-men?

Mike Komisarek (2 years remaining) + Matthew Lombardi (1 year remaining) for Shawn Horcoff (3 years remaining)
Burke already got rid of Antropov once, doubt he will trade back from him since it only dumps 700k salary (not including Franson). If it is Connolly + Lombardi + Franson, then he will listen
He only has 1 year left and could be a good #2 C playing with Kane. It allows Burmi to drop down to the 3rd line (he become overwhelmed with #2 C duties this year IMO) and lets Scheifele spend another year in Barrie.
Hamrlik has the perfect contract for a cap dump, its just 1 year and its not an obscene amount

Maybe Ballard and his $4.2 mil cap hit... kinda rough.
Raymond could be had for an under-valued price...
Everyone else.. Solid.
Some may say Luongo.. but i rather keep the future 1000gm, 500 win goalie to my team, thank you.
That could be great for Mason to work behind that system... I almost cheer for something like that to happen for him...
Or New Jersey, a year under Marty's watch would probably give the guy a new look at what he needs to do to be successful.
Plus with the system, he could see the turn around that Mike Smith saw in Phx.
I'm hoping Mason Raymond will bring back a similar situation forward, but more of a depth role type, with a lesser salary.
Like an Eric Fehr, if a contract could be worked out before hand, and a deal around 2 years 2 million total, 1 million cap hit.
We take on the less potential but less salary player, while the Jets get the higher potential but higher salary player?
Andrew Alberts I'd take futures, the roster space would be more desirable at this point. Another case of a player with the wrong style who just doesn't fit Vancouver's system.

Yeah... I think it's more Sean Burke you should be giving credit to. Earlier in the season teams figured out a beach ball could consistently go through Smith's five hole, and eventually that was improved enough to no longer be an issue.
Plus, Smith is more talented than people give him credit for. His stats are much better than Labarbera's for a reason, despite playing behind the same system.
From FL for sure, Santorelli is available for next to nothing. He's signed next yr for $1.6M. He just doesnt fit in with the team and need to make room for guys like Huberdeau next season.
IMO one of 4 will happen with Santo:
a) Someone (cough cough, CBJ Mason?) trades us a young player with 1 year left that is about to get bought out anyway (Santo isn't eligible for 1/3 buyout anymore) and wants to take a chance with Santo. Needless to say, we then proceed to buyout the acquired player for 1/3.
b) Santo is placed on waivers (re-entry probably) and someone takes him.
The Sens will likely have a logjam of young forwards next year. These guys still have some potential but are waiver-eligible and may be on the outside looking in.
Bobby Butler (1 way; $1.2m salary; $1.05m cap hit; RFA 2013)
24 years old
2011-12: 56gp 6-10-16 (+8)
2010-11: 36gp 10-11-21 (-16)
Kaspars Daugavins ($600k, RFA 2012)
23 years old
2011-12: 56gp 5-6-11 (-2)
Gotta agree with Leino and weber....before the trade deadline I would have added Gragnani, but apparebtly DR found sombody dumb enough.....er who values Gragnani enough to give up an asset for him...
Wow! I just looked up the Leino contract, and it has 5 more years. I had no idea it was that long. I like Leino, as a player. But for that kind of money (4.5M) until 2017 is just unreal.
Can some Sabre fans explain what happened to the guy? His stats are pretty poor, but was his season really that bad?
You can have him. He didn't find a consistant spot on the Leafs roster all year.
Lombardi could be had for a 7th.
I think for anything less than a 5th, he will be an option for the Yotes. The Yotes have gone three straight years with a veteran two way center with Lang, Belanger and Langkow. They've made the playoffs in competitive Western conference fields every year. I could see either Lombardi for a late round pick (since he's had chemistry in Tippett's system before) or Stoll on a one-year bounce back contract.
From the Yotes, Derek Morris could be had for pretty cheap.
Expiring UFA
Available, but not for free

So the Wild don't really have anyone that fits that profile.
Johnson is a RFA. All four are expendable players that are approaching either UFA status or RFA status, hence they could all be had for next to nothing. Johnson may be re-signed but it's not really much of a loss at all if we choose to let him go.
