No way this kid sees ice-time this season. But I'm thrilled we signed him.

#25 is what he chose in my latest EHM game with Richards oviously having #19. So I guess it's legit

If he doies'nt see the ice this yr then people can legit say they are dummies for signing him now and burnign a yr off the entry level.

I think he plays. he may sit for a few games and get some pracitce in but I would throw him into the PP rotation and start him on the 4th line.

Can we all agree wasting a yr off an entry level and not playing him makes no sense?

I actually don't think it's a big deal to be honest.

Kreider will play, and he will play soon. Torts has been chomping at the bit to get a hold of him since the END of last season. He has international experience and physically he is more than ready for the NHL.

Actually it kinda is from a cap perspective. When Kreider turns RFA in 14/15 since this year counts, its the same year when

Gaborik is UFA
Callahan is UFA
Girardi is UFA
Lundqvist is UFA
Boyle is UFA
Rupp is UFA
Erixon is RFA
Redden is UFA (lol)

Hopefully theyll have most of those resolved by them, but you cant ignore it.

I dont think its a big deal either to be perfectly honest. Even if he doesn't touch the ice I think its a worthwhile experience to be traveling/practicing with this team in the playoffs. It'll really give him a sense of professionalism and determination it takes to be perform at the pro level.

He still has 2 years left after this year and anything can happen in that timespan. There will be plenty of money to keep him around if he's the real deal

He will be coming off his first (2) years in the league as a RFA. We all know how Sather deals with his RFA's. Shorter term contracts so the player can prove themselves while not upping the money too much. It's perfectly fine.

He plays under these guidelines :
Skate hard after the puck
Keep stick down
Move feet on back check and away from puck
Stick on the ice

If he keeps it simple and works hard and isn't awestruck he should be able to play .
CK has the ability with his speed to turn one 50/50 puck or a bank off the boards into a breakaway . He's built like Kovalchuk with more speed but less dangle .
Let him play

People I think get too bent out of shape thinking too long-term. The CBA could be totally different by 14/15 rolls around

Yeah, but do you honestly think we're going to have guys like Rupp and Redden signed?

Erixon? Kid is not going to get a huge pay-day. Neither is Kreider.

I love Gaborik, but depending on what we do thsi off-season, if we add a Parise or a Nash then his salary slot will be sacrificed to address other team needs. Unless he comes back on a sweetheart 3-year deal for 15 million which I doubt.

Girardi is going to be an interesting UFA. Last year he played as well as Staal, this year he's been better for various and legit reasons. If he continues to be our best or 2nd best defenceman behind McDonagh, I can truly see Staal getting moved.

Cally and Lundqvist are going nowhere

Boyle and Rupp are gone

Erixon, depending on developement curve, will probably be retained.

Redden is going to be hired as an Asst. Coach for the Whale He's been acting in that capacity as a player for a while now.

I'd like to see him put up 30 goals in his rookie season wearing #25 just like Petr Prucha did. (Hopefully the rest of his career goes a little better after that..)

One thing Kreider has shown since being drafted is that he is a winner...a gold medal at the WJCs and two NCAA championships are proof of that. He understands what it takes to win. Given Torts' past comments about him, I don't think it will take long for him to make an impression on Torts. I'm just thrilled to finally see this kid in a Ranger uniform.
that is one of the things that excites me about the kid. he seems to play his best in big game situations...

true and one of the things speculated is the league wanting to put restrictions on 2nd contracts so guys coming off ELC don't get monster deals that inflate salaries...no idea how it would work or what they have in mind, but if the new cba results in us having to give less $$ to stepan, mcd, mdz, kreider, etc in their 2nd contracts that will obviously make our cap situation much easier for those few extra years.

I want Kreider to spend as much time around Cally and Richards as possible. Let him learn how to conduct himself on and off the ice. That, to me, is worth a year off his elc.

I'd love it if Gaborik came back for a few more years with a cheaper salary. Even as he declines I bet he can score 30, especially with the way he's picked up his game around the net.

Because of this, in some ways it actually benefits the Rangers to be burning a year off the deal. It decreases the possibility of Kreider having a breakout year during the final season of his ELC. Had they waited, the likely year would've been the 3rd season of the deal. Now it will likely be the first season of his 2nd contract.
