Remember the first 20 games of the season when the Oilers were playing WAY over their heads? That's why. Khabibulin was out of his mind for quite a while yet they still finished 23rd in GAA, that's pretty awful.

He is a bad GM and the Oilers will be much better off firing him

Actually their GA I'm pretty sure has dropped fairly low since the Gilbert for Schultz deal.

The reason they were losing games down the stretch is because they weren't scoring any goals. Nugent Hopkins probably should finished a good deal ahead of Landeskog + Henrique for points even with the 20 games missed, but the entire offense hit a brick wall, especially with the refs not calling any penalties (no PPs + more clutch n' grab hurt the Oilers) on top of Hall getting hurt.

Here's what I hope for:

-Move Hall to centre
-Trade gagner/Paajarvi for a top 4, young D-man
-Sign Justin Schultz (why wouldn't he come here now with all this talent and such a bad D-core)
-Trade for Brendan Morrow

Morrow-RNH-Eberle
Yakupov-Hall-Hemsky
Hartkianen-Horcoff-Petrell
Eager-Belanger-Jones

Smid-Petry
Schultz-Schultz
Whitney-Trade

I wonder if it would make some sense to try MPS at center.

He doesn't do anything on the wing but shoot those softie floaters anyway, this would force him to get his butt in the middle of the ice and get some easier tap in type set ups from the D collapsing all around him trying to chase Hall and Yakupov.

He's defensively responsible and has incredible wheels and is more of a pass-first player.

I can't really say anything about his face off ability, but I do remember he won the 1 draw I recall him taking last year (lol).

Eberle RNH Hemsky
Hall Paajarvi Yakupov

I think Hall's game is more dependant on being on the wing.

If that works, I think you keep MPS at the no.2 spot and eventually move Hemsky for a more physical winger.

IMHO, he's player that is slightly ahead of his peers and puts it all together on the ice, albeit not so well defensively in my view. So he goes #1 and for good reason, but his playoffs were lackluster (because he was brought back too soon from the Halmo hit) and he gets lost in his own end at times. Plays a reckless game that is fun to watch in juniors, but doesn't have the size at all to play that game in the NHL and last.

Edmonton would be better off pulling this kid aside and saying 'you made it here sport, now here's what we want you to do out there'. Otherwise, their draft pick is gonna have a short career.
If Hall and RNH were able to play next season in NHL then Yakupov is more than ready for that. BTW that generational talent talks are just insane and have no basement whatsoever. People already talking about Mckinnon as generational talent but based on what? His numbers in QMHJL are average for potential number one pick and there is nothing special in skillswise either.

If I were an Oilers fan I would be hoping they can win the cup before all their top picks start asking for big money and they have to trade some away to fit under the cap.

As long as they get a competent GM they (The Oilers) are fine. Great players always have trade value.

6', 190 is generous for Yakupov. So you fellas think he's skating top 6 minutes in the NHL next season?? I just don't. I mean I wouldn't mind seeing that, but I doubt it happens. He may be past Sarnia, but a top six forward in the show? Uh...no, not yet.

Wow, if I replace the name Yakupov with Nugent-Hopkins and Sarnia with Red Deer I would be living a deja vu.

Good work my friend.

"keeper of the cage"....your comments gave me a good laugh today. Thanks.
Yakupov isn't 6ft. or 190 lbs., and deffinetely not ready for the NHL. Maybe towards the end of next season.
Selecting Yakupov and then drafting Shultz would be auesome. They should push hard to sign him if he choose's to become a free agent. Trade a forward for a good defensive D-man or Goalie (bernier) and sign pick a goalie with their 2nd pick. Then I think they would be set for a long time.

you're welcome.
also, those situations are hypotheticals/"they shoulds". without knowing for sure if they will do any of those, while there's a good chance Schultz goes to Edmonton and a good chance they trade for a goalie (albeit less due to the improved play of Dubnyk over the last month or so of the season), the chatter should be about what kind of noise they can make next season with what they currently have. none of us know for sure what moves they'll make this off season, and acting like we do know is just silly

I will parrot what everyone else has already said, his injury had NOTHING to do with being too small.

He fell awkwardly into the boards. High school physics tells us F=ma and p=mv, if anything more mass would have made things worse.
