Great piece by Julia Robenhymer at HockeyBuzz

Quote:
"He's not your average college player. He's 6'3 and 225 pounds with tree trunks for legs who is fast, agile, skilled, has great vision, knows how to use the body and, perhaps most importantly, wants to get better. He's very coachable and wants to contribute to whatever team he's on in whatever way the coach wants. He is also unlike most college players because he's actually played against professionals with his two years of experience wearing the red, white and blue at the World Championship and don't forget, last summer before classes started at BC, he spent the better part of two weeks at the Rangers' training facility playing pick-up and practicing with the guys as they started to trickle into town. He is no stranger to what it takes to be an NHL player."

The sizes are spot on. I am 5'9" 165 and I wear a medium and it fits more snug than the old CCM jerseys.
I wouldn't recommend if you're trying to get it quickly and you're getting the Edge 2.0 2012 jerseys, which is probably what you will want (only 180 for an authentic before customization). It's a great price but it's on "back order." I ordered mine in late march and they just sent me an email today morning saying it's still going to take another 2-4 weeks.

I have never heard him be referred to as Cobra, seems appropriate. I've given this some thought and some names I have come up with
  • Kreids, seems like the consensus
  • Strider (Stride+Kreider)
  • Flash, Jet, Speedy to emphasize his speed

I am sure its been pointed out earlier, but I've seen a ton of "Kreider in for Mitchell" posts, and that of course makes zero sense since we wouldn't have a center for the 4th line without changing any of the other lines...

Rupp is a center, no?

That's not much of a put down since most of us didn't expect Kreider to be a top tier NHL sniper like the guys you're comparing him to...

Shot is probably more like Callahan's. Good, hard, but he's not going to consistently pick corners like an elite sniper, and a lot of his goals will come from in front of the net

I don't think Kreider is going tone a world beater. One of the reasons that he always reminded me of Amonte, is how he's going to have to work for goals. His speed and size indicate that he should get a healthy share, but this isn't a a guy who is going to snipe from 15 feet out. He's going to have use his speed and cunning to get in close.

I don't know if can see him scoring 40 goals in the NHL, but I don't think 30 is out of the question.

Also, he's basically the same size as Ovechkin, but faster (at least from what I've seen he looks straight ahead faster than Ovechkin but probably with fewer moves)

e: and not to actually compare his abilities to Ovechkin at all, just pointing out a similar size comparison. Ovechkin is a big fast guy who bulls his way around the rink when he wants to, and Kreider is basically the same size.

Of course Ovechkin has a better shot, is more dynamic, etc. Not saying Kreider is comparable to Ovechkin in any way other than size and speed

Ok, to make a comparison...

Kreider will be to the Rangers what Iman Shumpert is for the Knicks.

Rookie who has the will to really work on his game to improve. Has offensive talent apparent but does not know how to consistently hone it yet. We'll see spurts but we'll also see games where he'll look rather invisible.

There will be a culmination sooner rather than later, because of the core established and coaching present (along with that will to get better and soak in critiques and coaching), where it all comes together and Kreider becomes a very valuable piece for us.

Right off the bat he'll be dynamic but inconsistent (my prediction).

His shot - Doesn't have an overpowering slap shot. Wrist shot is definitely above average but he's got to learn when to use it, sometimes he's reluctant to shoot.

He's not a Rick Nash. I'm sorry. If people are going in expecting that from him then they'll be wrong. He's gonna be very useful for us but he's not the elite goal scorer we need and are lacking.

By mid season next year he should be on the 2nd line with Richards and Callahan. Hopefully we get a top 3 forward (Nash, Ryan, Parise) and pair them with Step and Gabby.

Slide Boyle down to the 4th line and reunite him with Prust, that'll make one hell of a checking line with Rupp.

3rd line of Dubi, Anisimov, and Hags.

CK would be linked to Calvin Klein. CK, DKNY I thought we got rid of fashion on this team with Avery. SO Hell NO.

Additionally, I think we'll see Kreider in the event of any injury. Why he's practicing with the Boyle line is because I would think that of any player on the Rangers with a susceptibility to be injured it would be Fedotenko, he's been injured quite often this year and he's about to see an increase in playing time.

Boyle will also help Kreider transition better too - BC Grads that have kept in touch. Although, it would be most beneficial in my opinion for all parties involved to have Kreids with Step.

Don't discount the possibility that Mitchell tanks and makes a few boneheaded plays that lead to goals and is then led to a subsequent scratching. Had Kreider been up at the time of the Buffalo game I think he'd be a regular by now...

Interesting. Thanks.
Like to see what he and Dubi could come up with.

He could be traded for Nash come summer time. I don't see why not. I would hold on to new jersey purchase as of yet.

No he won't be. You realize they kept him out of discussions at the deadline? The final offer was Dubinsky, Miller, Erixon, Thomas, and a 1st round pick. They never threw Kreider into the discussions.

They aren't trading him for Nash and that disgusting cap hit.
