BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Buffalo Sabres president Ted Black says the team is already looking ahead on how to rebound from this year's disappointing finish. And he adds those plans include moving forward with both general manager Darcy Regier and coach Lindy Ruff.
As difficult as it was on the franchise to miss the playoffs, Black told The Associated Press by phone that there's "no time to wallow in misery." He says the team will continue the aggressive approach in adding players it established last offseason, its first under new owner Terry Pegula.
Black cleared up any questions regarding Regier and Ruff's futures by saying they will be back. Both have been criticized in the media this past week after the Sabres, and their high-priced payroll, finished ninth in the Eastern Conference standings.
Triple points for Uncle Teddy giving this to the AP first.
But commence raging from you folks that wanted housecleaning.
The question rolling forward now becomes: "Just exactly what has to happen for one or both of the Dynamic Duo to be fired?"
What if we miss the playoffs the next 10 years?
What if Darcy is discovered to be running a human slavery/drug trafficking ring?
What if Lindy dies of a heart attack on the golf course? Would we have a new coach then? Or would Terry have a wax replica of Lindy constructed and placed behind the bench at all games, accurately attired in a distasteful assortment of Lindy's usual mis-matching cheap suits, shirts, and ties?
Is there ANY scenario in which one or both of these guys is/are fired?
Maybe Pegula and Black should realize the team had 89 ****ing points and missed the playoffs, and was an utter embarrassment until late January. Is that good enough for a max-spending team? I guess if Pegs wants to throw his money down the drain for poor results, then by all means...
