I could be wrong, but I'm fairly certain players aren't eligible to be traded until the window to sign Granlund has closed.

Koivu ain't going anywhere. He is about the only player right now, Fletch wouldn't move IMHO.

That's just nonsense. Granlund wouldn't ditch and dump the Wild just because of Koivu. For a young prospect Wild would be one of the best choices to be in at the moment. Team has a bright future and has almost finished with it's youngster movement.

In two years the lineup could consist guys like: Granlund, Coyle, Brodin, Zucker, Phillips, Scandella. 4 guys with top6 potential and 2 defensemen with top4 potential. Then add some veterans.

Not ture at all.

There is no such thing as the "trade deadline." Trades can be made at any time with any team. The issue is, 2PM on 2/27 this year was effectively the NHL's "clear day." Players acquired after that date are not allowed to play in the playoffs that season. Not so long ago, the Wild made a post-trade deadline trade, sending Petr Kalus away for future considerations.

Okay, thanks. I was thinking there was a freeze until the playoffs were over.

Erik Haula and Tyler Cuma

to

TB Mark Barberio

Barberio's stats can be seen here

Decent size, good mobility, has great offensive instincts and is still young. He was a sleeper during the draft year in a few of the draft guides. We have an abundance of young forwards and lack defensemen beyond Brodin. I think TB would want more than Haula and Cuma might just need a change of scenery.

Anywhere close on this or am I way off?

I'd rather keep Haula and Cuma.

Both have a chance at making an NHL roster someday.

Haula might be a diamond in the rough, and we haven't seen Cuma's true potential yet.

Thinking about us being set with both Hack and Kue is would assume that Gussy could be a thing to use in a future trade deal

I would imagine if the Wild don't re-sign Harding, they're fine bringing Gustafsson (Gustavsson? Forget which is Johan and which is Jonas...) over to compete with Kuemper in Houston. If Harding is re-signed, Hackett will be in Houston, and one of the others is going to ECHL and I think Kuemper would be put on the block. Goalie prospects aren't hot commodities in the first place, and Gus's complete lack of NA resume means he'd be at the very bottom of any trade list. Kuemper has been much more easily visible to other teams, and has a much more thorough resume to try pimp up for a possible trade.

So here's a conundrum Ive been rattling around in my head. What if we stumble upon a college free agent who actually has a high ceiling and wants to sign here in the last few days of the season? We would have to free a contract slot because we need at least one free for granlund in late may, so we would have to either waive or trade someone away. What are our options? and remember this is purely what if, I'm not saying I think the Wild should go after someone, just more of a thought exercise.

I'd say Foster hits the can.

Waiving in the NHL is not like waiving in the NFL. You can't just "waive a player" to get rid of him. The contract is still on the books. Huet still counts against Chicago's contract limit.

Our only option would be to make a trade. We could complete a genuine NHL trade of a roster player to a team not making the playoffs (any player acquired after the deadline is ineligible for playoffs, so no playoff team would be interested) but that seems highly unlikely. The only realistic option would be to move someone like McIntyre for a late pick or future considerations. I don't know how that works with clear day rosters though, so he may not be eligible to play in AHL playoffs, so teams may not be interested in that either. That leaves the option of trading a contract guy who has had his contract slide. That would limit us to guys like Caron or Jobke, and we would probably have to pay a team to get rid of them.

tl;dr

It's not really an option.

Apparently Linus Omark wants out of Edmonton (per his comments on Twitter). I don't think we'd be interested in actually paying for him as an assumed roster spot, but he might be good injury insurance if we got him cheap. What could we offer?

Just curious what he said on twitter.

And, I'm not sure if he'd be a good fit here. I don't even know where to set his value at, but we'd probably need to ship out a player for contract spots? Or are we going to be good once some of our UFA's walk?

I'd have to think that was a joke/hacked.

Also does he have two accounts? Which is real?

Sounds like the Oilers have responded with these comments:

Quote:
"Linus is an interesting guy. He's young and very skilled. He could probably play on most teams' power play units."
Quote:
"We'll see what happens with Linus. I don't know yet. I like that he's determined to play in the NHL."

I think he's not very good with English and people are misinterpreting what he meant to say.

To me, it sounds like he just wants Edmonton to keep him in the NHL.

Well, players don't exactly like Edmonton. Heatley refused to go there. Nylander made a verbal agreement, and changed his mind. The decent players that they've accumulated is for the most part through the draft.
