I don't care what the city or the league thinks which owner is best, just get us an owner.
Agree on the need for an owner obviously.........but nearly as important is an owner that will keep the Yotes in AZ and also invests as necessary in the team. Think of Bill Bidwill....most hated owner in AZ sports history (thank god is son is running the ship now and look at the difference).
Dude. No one is living in "fantasy land" here. No one. Any optimism you see here is, at best, cautious. Over the past several months, the most churlishly obstinate poster in these threads has been you, the only poster who refuses to acknowledge that anyone else has a realistic take on this situation and the only one who claims to be certain about the outcome.
That is correct, just look at the facts, they do not support a bid by anyone interested in making any money. Of course you are one of those people who seem to think that investors will buy this just for the sake of assuaging their ego. What you and the others have failed to understand is that the economics and the NHL asking price are not conducive to a sale. Just watch
From Treliving interview with La Presse:
Quote:
QC will have an NHL team before you know it, but A)the Phoenix #Coyotes will not be going to Quebec
From Jim Treliving's Twitter Account:
I want to be clear that I am not currently involved in any plan to buy the Coyotes and B) I do not have any information about their future.
The 2 statements above appear to be mutually exclusive.
At face value, sure. But taken in the context of someone who is obviously quite close to the inner workings of the team, it looks to me like one was a statement of relative certainty while the other was damage control. Not that certainty means anything anymore.

Bidwell Sr still has some control, hence the failure to sign Peyton Manning. If any the preference game is not making it any eaiser for someone else to step in and buy as it appears both COG and the League both want JR only.

I think John Elway having the reigns in Denver was a bigger deal than Bidwell Sr. here in AZ.
Glendale, NHL trying to close Phoenix Coyotes deal with Jamison group
Quote:
The city is moving forward with Jamison’s group as the preferred bid, and is looking to work out an arena lease deal in the next few weeks.
An official familiar with the Coyotes deal said the lease will be structured to avoid legal and political challenges from the Goldwater Institute watchdog group. Goldwater’s opposition to a previous city bond deal helped scuttle a sale of the Coyotes to Chicago investment executive Matthew Hulsizer.
a purchase prices could be brought down to the $140 million to $150 million range.
UPDATES to Lisa's article (in reference to the Mayor's comment):
Quote:
@LisaHalverstadt:.@HollywoodRacing The #Glendale council viewed a proposal by the Jamison group months ago and likely got new info last night. #Coyotes
@LisaHalverstadt:.@HollywoodRacing #Glendale City Manager Ed Beasley predicts deal(s) will go public this month. Seems to want a vote soon.
@LisaHalverstadt: Snippet that didn't make it into the paper: City Manager Ed Beasley said last 7-10 days of #Coyotes talks have been "very intense."
@LisaHalverstadt: #Glendale City Manager Beasley: "We've got two very strong groups that are working very hard this week." #Coyotes
If the city favours Jamison, the other group is probably the front runner.
And does it really take a few weeks to work out the lease? You'd figure after three years the city would have a lease ready that they could live with and still satisfy the buyer and Goldwater.
2. The second group has all the money needed but they are not familiar with running an NHL team and the NHL has concerns about this issue.
This does not make sense? Most new owners of NHL franchises are not familiar with running a NHL team. Why would the NHL be concerned since the operations staff is already in place to keep things running in the short run until the new owner is up to speed.
I thought they said Jamison's group was short earlier this year, but had now come up with enough financing??? $20 million, huh. Wonder where they could come up with $20 million!?!?!

They probably don't want somebody to run this franchise (further) into the ground. Jamison is a known quantity.

I doubt it. The NHL wants someone to take over the bills, knowledge of running a NHL team is not an issue. The Yotes have a qualified GM and coach at the moment to keep things on the straight and narrow and there is no guarantee that Jamison would not screw up things as well.

It does not make any sense that the NHL would have concerns regarding an ownership group if they did not have experience with owning a NHL team. Please provide me with a name of the last new owner that had experience with owning a NHL team.
edit, BTW I agree with you that the NHL does not want another Moyes at the helm; however, excluding individuals who do not have experience owning a NHL team does not solve that problem.

if the price does come down to $140m-ish then I'm left even more pissed off...why couldn't we have been here two years ago people?
Why wouldnt they wait until the last possible moment to lower the price. Of course you stick to your asking price as long as humanly possible. It's business.
