Wish they could have capitalized on the 2 man advantage, but that was about as good a period as I could have asked for

I really like Pred's PP but these opportunities must be capitalized.

Howard has been pretty sharp.

Howard is looking good against us so far ... Rinne untested. Ice did look choppy.

Josi plays a very solid game. I'm impressed. This kid makes so many little smart plays it's ridiculous!

Preds-Wings saw 6 penalties called in the first period.

Flyers-Pens have 1 penalty called halfway through the game and that was a legit boarding call on Giroux (even if Orpik milked it a bit)

Preds dominate the period but can't score on the PP. They did get some good chances though and to think Gaustad the only one who scored. Good 1st period though and if they keep it up the puck will get in the net.

We should've gotten at least one PP goal out of that...that was relentless pressure.

Not enough shots with the two man advantage...though we had good possession and pressure. Tried about 4 too many times for the backdoor...and they were ready for it. They look like they have a pretty good plan against our PP...so we need to adapt to that. Keep Horny in front of the net...but start going for more point shots...less of the back door plays.

Agreed. It's going to be awfully hard for Detroit to score if we can continue this puck possession game.

Unfortunately, it's going to be awfully hard for the Preds to score against Howard even if they continue the puck possession game.

That was a great first period, but I'd like to see more of it on the scoreboard.

The minute we let up pressure, the wings will start to cruise.

Relentless forecheck!!

We dominated that first period. Detroit gave us every opportunity to cycle the puck and we made them pay. Our forecheck was all over them and we were able to get the puck out of the zone quickly.

Detroit won't let us do that again.

Well, they actually had the puck in the zone. Trust me, that's great by my standards

Rads/Legs had just had an intense shift before that drew the penalty. I wish we could've gotten a stoppage to give them an opportunity to get them out there...but I'm guessing they weren't quite ready when Kostitsyn drew the high stick.

But yeah, I would like to have seen Rads work the 5 on 3.

Precisely.

As for the 5on3. I didn't really see anything wrong with it in terms of personnel. The guys we put out there got the job done during the regular season, why would that change now?

We'll see what adjustments are made by both teams for the 2nd. Love playoff hockey!

Definitely one of the keys for us...

Don't wait on them. When we aren't possessing the puck, we should be working our ***** off to get it back.

I would like to see more of Josi in this situation. The team stifled under the weight of the need to score. Josi doesn't do that. He is ice cold.

this may be one time that the long wait between games helps the Preds. Sometimes when those older bodies sit around for a long time (Wings) is when the bumps and bruises really become apparent. The young Preds need to ramp up the skating intensity in the second period and see if the Wings can keep up.

Radulov was on the ice for 59 seconds leading up to the first penalty of the 5on3. He was then out there for 13 seconds that ended with the second penalty call. 1:12 of ice time in under 2 mins of game time ... and the reason why he was on the bench when we had the 2 man advantage.
