I think Pierre McGuire had a lot to do with people remembering the Jordan Eberle goal against Team Russia. That call made the moment legendary. Tons of people YouTube that goal on a nightly basis just to hear Pierre.
"I can! Because of da fact dat 'Koo-lee-kin' ices a puck!!! And look at the Russian body language now! They're crushed! Tavares had to step up and make a magical play! The crrrrrowd loves it! Tavarghghgres' magical play."
I call it the "I Can" goal. Thanks, Pierre.

Definitely. For example, Joe Sakic's second goal in the 2002 Gold Medal game wasn't all that important in the overall scheme of the win, but it's still (to my mind, at least) the most memorable moment of that game.

Are you kidding? Gord Miller made a legendary call, Pierre almost ruined it with his chatter. He should have just kept his mouth shut in that case.
"Do You believe in Miracles? YEESSS!" - Not that the Miracle on Ice wasn't a historic moment, but even if I say those words to myself I get goosebumps if that tells you anything about Al Michaels' call
"Here's Lemieux.........to center, penalty coming up, LOOK AT LEMIEUX! OH MY GOODNESS, WHAT A GOAL, WHAT A MOVE........LEMIEUX! OOHH BABY!" - Bob Cole describing Mario's goal in 1991. Still would have been famous, but when Cole was inducted into the HHOF this goal was among his highlight packages for calls
I think circumstances in general affect how big an event seems in hindsight. For example i remember watching he 94/95 playoff series between the Sharks and Red Wings, due to me being on the other side of the pond it was aired in the middle of the night and for me as a 12-13 year old kid it was an absolutely amazing feeling, both the games and staying up really late. And altough i dont remember much of the commentary about it i do remember the games and the feeling i had.
OH, WOW!! In your life, have you seen anything like that? Verne Lundquist. Maybe the most memorable golf shot ever and Verne's commentary was magical.
55 seconds left in the penalty, a minute and 27 seconds left in regulation time. Boston 4 Montreal 3. Lafleur, coming out rather gingerly on the right side. He gives it in to Lemaire, back to Lafleur. HE SCOOORES! (Gallivan silent as the crowd roars).
To be fair though, I don't think any announcer could have made that play any better. It was anti-climatic because no one on TV - including a very hesitant camera man - knew where the puck was.
