But yet again, he shows how hes really nothing special as he whacks ineffectively at vorachek scoring the winner. I swear everytime I see him on the ice against ther Flyers he's just getting the puck taken off his stick, or ridden into the boards like a cheap rodeo bull.

Maybe its just the Flyers playing him well, but I can't believe his ineffectiveness only comes through against the Flyers.

...(minus the 2 on 1 assist )
He did ring one off the post

I actually think Staal is pretty underrated.
His line with Kennedy and Cooke destroyed the Flyers in 2009 and was a huge reason for their Cup win.

Also, weren't people complaining about Giroux being a no-show? Staal's doing.

Unfortunately I don't think that's true. Even if they are swept out of the playoffs, all the nationally televised broadcasts will still mention him at least once a period. If not all the games they will at least talk about him during Flyers game, but that could be ok because they might be talking about him losing and being shut down.

I have always preffered watching teams come back instead of sitting on a lead, and the flyers are the ultimate comeback kids. Washington was great at it a few years ago, but i think the flyers are better in this category. I can understand why some teams struggle keeping a lead, it's very hard to do, i think it's very hard mentally to be leading and focusing on not making a mistake that will possibly change the game.

Staal is quite the force, he's very underrated and he does little things that people are ignorant to see sometimes. He is a stellar 2-way player, but one complaint from yesterday i have is the OT goal, and where his coverage was on it.

Sidenote: Quite the game, good win, you deserved it. Here's to a great series!

I must admit, it is very nice to see the Pens fans being so good about the game. I wasn't sure what to expect after we won (also wasn't sure what to expect from both teams when watching the game).

Thank you - we looked like boys amongst men in the first period and I have no doubt the Pens won't let what happened yesterday happen in any more games.

Here's to a long, hard-fought series!

I don't mean to come off like hes a terrible player, that wasn't the intention. I don't watch him as closely as I should really. And generally he gets lost in the fleurry of Malkin and Crosby.

But those tend to be some of the best players I suppose, the ones who do it quietly and you never notice until you start going and searching for it.

I think Staal is a phenomenal player. I was shocked when I realized it was him with the blown coverage in OT, I don't expect that from him especially in OT.

I must admit its nice to see the flyers fans being respectful of my post, not what I was expecting. I too agree, Pens won't linger on the loss, but they will be sure to not let that happen again to them.

I dislike you for complicating my preconceived negative overgeneralization of Penguins fans.

Seriously, though, I agree with you that I don't anticipate the Penguins playing as softly again as they did as the game progressed.

So Colin Campbell is apparently almost as upset as the Penguins about the non-call on Brière's first goal. Here's most of the story from TSN:

Quote:
The NHL's senior executive vice-president of hockey operations acknowledges that linesman Tony Sericolo erred in not whistling the play dead prior to Danny Briere's goal early in the second period.

The Flyers forward was sent in on a breakaway off a long pass from teammate Brayden Schenn that came immediately after a turnover in the neutral zone.

Campbell believes that Sericolo was in position to make the right call but thinks the quick turnaround affected his view of the play.

Briere's goal was the first for Philadelphia as it erased a three-goal deficit and beat Pittsburgh 4-3 in overtime. After the game, Penguins coach Dan Bylsma said the blown call wasn't responsible for his team losing the game.

Campbell says the incident could affect how director of officiating Terry Gregson handles staffing assignments moving forward.
I bet the whole NHL FO was beside themselves at this terrible turn of events. I can understand that Campbell would think it was a poor call – and it was – but to go public like this? I'm trying to not buy into the conspiracy theory, but Bettman and Campbell both weighing in on plays between these 2 teams in such short order just seems weird.

No mention of the missed icing call though? I mean say both of those whistles happened, though the outcome might be different it's not as though the missed icing whistle was less obvious.
