Ugh why do I feel so apathetic towards this series? I feel like the Caps are damned if they do, damned if they don't with me unless they make the Conf. Finals. Just so tired of this team letting me down? I think they actually take this series but I won't be surprised either way. However if they do (and in some sick way I expect this) go up 3-1 in the series or 2-0 only to blow it, ill be beyond livid. This team has made an art out of toying with our emotions for years.
This is as apathetic as I can remember myself being for any postseason series/game involving a team I support.
The 1990-91 years playoffs were for me.
This was the season after the limo incident and where we lost Stevens in Free Agency.
Faced off against the Pens who were on a mission when Kevin Stevens was at his peak.
We had little chance. We didn't even have a 30 goal scorer on the team (remember this was a much higher scoring era so that was pretty sad...just checked..Kelly Miller and Kevin Hatcher were tied with a team leading 24 goals)
I think I remember a 4th line of Tippett/Hunter/Ciccarelli being our most effective vs the Pens. It looked like all those guys were on their last leg to be honest.
This year? Not so much. We got some serious firepower that is just waiting to be woken up.
Well boys, I had trouble sleeping last night, listened to "third eye" and "jimmy" at abnormally loud volumes on the drive into work today and the fridge is stocked full with a case of Moosehead. What does this all mean? The Caps quest for Lord Stanley begins tonight. Co-workers beware, there is a better than average chance you will be hip checked into the copy machine today.
Ditto. Dare I say, I'm even optimistic. But that's not the rational part of my brain talking.
Oh I am in no way optimistic but I am excited to see how this team playing this brand of hockey plays in the playoffs. I want to see what adding the added intensity of the playoffs to the mix brings with this bunch as well as what playing with the added freedom of nobody really expecting them to win the series does.
Outside of in goal they are as healthy as they haven been all season and Holtby IMO is good enough to give them solid goaltending if he doesn't succumb to the pressure. The talent that convinced the Hockey News to predict they'd win the cup is still all in place, except for Vokoun right now. Nobody is going to accuse them of playing the 'wrong' way. And there are no real expectations and thus not a lot of pressure.
I can't make myself forget everything I have seen all season but I keep telling myself that doesn't matter as it all starts all over tonight. I'd don't really believe that but I am trying. My hearts says Caps in 7 but my head says B's in 5. But regardless I am excited for tonight's game and it is going to take a while to get to 7:30 tonight...
Once the puck drops/Caps lead by a goal in one of the games I wonder if we'll still see all of these "apathetic" people.
I'll still be apathetic. Unless we win the Cup, we lose.
Any advancement will likely justify to management bringing DH back next year, even though I'm about 99.9% positive that it'll be a super-human player effort that advances us, not DH's coaching.
I miss the team of Konowalchuk, Halpern, Dahlen, Bonzai, Oates, Simon, Gonchar, Witt, Klee, and the list goes on. I just feel like those teams, while not high on talent, had the heart and at least you knew they had a chance to win because they might out work the other team. The current team...not so much.

Nah...I don't miss those teams very much. Outside of 97-98 all we did was use the "center-lock" (ie the TRAP) and lulled opponents to sleep...sorta like we are doing now.
I miss the brash team under Boudreau with the Donald on the team acting as a major deterrant. We were dominant despite having a woeful D group as a whole.
Really in 09-10 we were the best team in the league and if we didn't get Halaked we would have won the cup there is no doubt. We were just a relentless team that came in offensive waves. It was a pretty intimidating team in all honesty.

I'd rather see Reekie in the line up, even at his current age, than Sarge.
