Gaustad would be like malholtra tho, take faceoff then get off the ice lol. Guastad is still only a borderline 2nd center or a decent 3rd.
so...if the price is right I'd sign a guy like him for the bottom six. He'd have a huge impact on this team IMO. I'm sick of watching rival teams destroy us in the circle, it is such a crucial part of the game.
Why does every player we should sign have to be a top line centre in your opinion? We are never going to land a big name UFA, the only way we'll see one on our roster is because we drafted him.
Feaster needs to tell the owners "fire my fat ass and bring someone else in."
I don't understand the hate...?
He's been here for 1 and a half years. He was tied up with the mess Darryl Sutter left behind. He hasn't got the chance to put his own stamp on this team.
This is the off-season he gets a chance to do that. Wait until the trade deadline to give him a FAIR evaluation.
The ownership group obviously does not have the confidence in Feaster that they did in Sutter, I'm assuming its from how he ran Tampa.
Or they could be gun shy about giving a GM complete control after the way Sutter screwed their team up. Or Feaster supports the idea of consensus as opposed to dictatorship (which we know he does).
- There are a number of ways to improve your hockey team, and its not always by acquiring draft picks
this point stuck out to me. Other the the blatantly obvious answer of Free Agents, Trades and Keeping your own picks what are the possibilities?
Reclamation projects like Comeau and to a lesser degree Kolanos?
But what I am wondering is if an offer sheet could be in play.
An offer sheet on July 1st would cost us 2013 draft picks. Which is reportedly a very deep draft (which they always say). We are already without a 2nd rounder due to the Cammalleri trade, but have all our other picks.
Last summer the RFA compensation was this:
Quote:
The criteria for RFA draft pick compensation in 2011-12 is as follows:
$1,034,249 annual cap hit or less: No compensation
$1,034,249 $1,567,043: Third-round pick
$1,567,043 $3,134,088: Second-round pick
$3,134,088 $4,701,131: First and third-round pick
$4,701,131 $6,268,175: First, second and third-round pick
$6,268,175 $7,835,219: Two first-round picks, a second and third
$7,835,219 and higher: Four first-round picks
the 2011-12 compensation was 4% than 2010-11, so assuming it rises 4% once again the numbers would be (the bolded are one we would be able to offer without re-acquiring our 2nd round pick in 2013 from Montreal:
Under $1,075,619 - No Compensations
Over $1,075,619 - 3rd Round Picks
Over $1,629,725 - 2nd Round Picks
Over $3,259,452 - 1st & 3rd Round Picks
Over $4,889,176 - 1st, 2nd & 3rd Round Picks
Over $6,518,902 - Two 1st, a 2nd & a 3rd Round Picks
Over $8,148,628 - Four 1st Round Picks
So are there any RFAs that would both help us and accept an offer sheet of either under $1,629,725, between $3,259,452 & $4,889,176 or over $8,148,628, and how many of them are on teams that wouldn't match?

Pretty steep prices for a RFA. I'd hate for a Dustin Penner situation. Another way to obtain players is internationally. I'm surprised Feaster didn't mention exploring scouting over seas.

Perfectly put. Feaster does not deserve our hate just yet. We should at least let him have a shot at working with this roster before we declare his efforts a failure. Sutter got nearly a decade!! Feaster for a year and a bit and we're ready to fire him? I for one, appreciate that he wants to move towards youth. Sutter seemed to hate that idea.
