Agreed.

Also, with respect to the Luongo talk, I remember hearing that if RL played one more game for the Isles in the 99-00 season he'd have a million dollar bonus coming to him. Milstien, Gluckestern, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern didn't want to pay RL the million, so they told Milbury to sit RL.

This pissed off RL and his agent and they pretty much demanded a trade.

No idea if this is true or not, but I remember hearing it.

Yep, our genius GM who drafted a goalie for his stick handling skills ended up helping to nullify said skill by voting for the trapezoid. I remember Lamoriello was understandably upset with MM over that.

I remember hearing that, too.

It's amazing how the Islanders have owners who want to own the team, but don't want to invest in it.

Milbury goes for shock value. He's the Howard Stern of hockey people, except he sucks at it... well, actually, he does make other hockey people laugh.

The worst part is that Dr. Milbury covered up the true reasons for the Luongo trade with his psychological exam B.S.

Apparently the guy he drafted at #4 three years earlier (whose stock had risen since then) suddenly became a loser in Mike's eyes and when he looked into Ricky's eyes, he saw a winner. Who needs to actually scout players, when you can make light of the kid's entire future through amateurish psychological profiling?

That being said, even if they kept Luo, who's to say we don't end up trading him like the Panthers did? Guys like him and Chara ended up bolting for greener pastures from their second teams, why not from us?

this x 2.

while wang must've had a misunderstanding with smith and patty, at some point, it should die. problem is, these things don't have to. they can outlive people sometimes....

Gotcha. You could have a grab bag with those. Why not? Mike Milbury did!

The bonus part is true.

But I don't think he demanded a trade. Otherwise Milbury would have used it as his out on the trade to FLA and the drafting of Rick.

I think it all stems from the time Luongo missed or was late for practice because he was out apartment hunting and then got lit up later in the game. RL was in Milbury's dog house (like many other young Isles) ever since then.

Or to try another angle:

Would a Mark Cuban buy the Isles to play in a new arena in Uniondale?

Would a Mark Cuban buy the Isles to play in Brooklyn?

Just something to think about.

Angle already thought of. And no...No way Cuban buys with Isles without a new arena deal ALREADY IN PLACE or...

...If there wasn't a deal in place, the first call he'd make would be to Queens like any sensible businessman/sports owner should.

Wang = Inept.

LaFontaine

There was an article in the Buffalo News today about Pat LaFontaine and his relationship to the Isles franchise.

Thought you folks might be interested.

LaFontaine was always a very popular Sabre and I'm sure he was popular among your fan base as well.

I hope our next owner invites all the refugees back into the fold(ex-players, anyway). It looks like Wang's days of expecting an arena deal to come from nowhere are numbered.
LaFontaine was lied to by Picket, which is why he left. Which shows that even good owners make mistakes.
Classy guy!

Are you calling Pickett a good owner?

He used to pocket money and spend nothing on the team, while living in Florida with no interest in what was going on, which is when Torrey drove us into the ground through his loyalty to old players and old scouts.

Was just listening to LaFontaine be interviewed on Sportsnet's Hockey Central. They asked him about the Isles and, as expected, he took the high road and was very gracious.

Then after LaFontaine hungup at the end of the segment, Doug MacLean said that when he was an assistant GM in Detroit, they had a deal done to trade Yzerman to the Isles for LaFontaine. He said he went to bed assuming it was done then woke up in the AM to find it had fallen through. The cohost asked what happened and MacLean just said that cooler heads prevailed in Det and they decided not to trade Yzerman.

Crazy!

I remember that. I read in Newsday that it was going to happen. I was already thinking about how Yzerman was going to fit on the Isles. Indeed, crazy stuff.

I have never been more tempted to just stop supporting this organization, that I have 35+ years invested in by the way, than I am right now until this piece of **** is no longer the owner of this team.
