It should be interesting to see how we manage the contracts. IMO it starts and end with Hall.
If Hall signs @ 5M\yr til the last year of his RFA then it makes resigning everyone else a lot easier. Give Hall the captaincy, bar set at 5M. Give Ebs the same amount. RNH and Yakupov will follow.
If we hand Hall a Lecavalier'ish contract then we are heading towards disaster.
We need to lock up Petry long term aswell... 2.5M x 4yrs
Dubnyk a 2 yr deal at 2M

I'm good with those Contracts for Kids, I would think Petry might get closer to $3.5, but I see a long term deal there. As for Dubnyk, 1 yr, then extend him if he proves he's the #1.
Sign them as soon as you humanly can, and at fair market value. Don't play a game of chicken like they did with Smytty. Give them the first-class treatment they deserve.
hall (and the bigs) will get 5.5(tavares) min, probably 6+(tavares signed a sweetheart deal), maybe up to 6.7(kane+toews 6.3 with inflation) based on current performance, and if they break 85 points before signing, then more(heading towards stamkos).
petry may sign a 2.5x2, but for a 4 year deal, it would probably take at least 3.5M/y
dubnyk deal could probably be made, i dont have a problem with your offer, others might think its too high.

Hall needs a really good season to get even Tavares level money. He's only put up 42 and 53 points so far and that's not amazing. I know he brings a ton of intangibles and he's been hampered by injury but at this point he's looking like he's playing second fiddle to Eberle. I'm sure he'll be worth the money long term but he's nowhere near Stamkos or even Kane or Toews so far. You cant just pay him for being drafted #1 overall.
I think you offer Hall and Ebs 5.5-6 million for ~7 years and then offer the same deal to Nuge next off-season. I see 2 types of deals we can offer Petry. A 2 year deal to prove himself at ~2.5 million and then possibly a big raise after that, or a 4 year deal at ~3.25 million

your assuming that hall, ebs and nuge won't sign, as you called it, a sweetheart deal. whos to say they won't sign exactly that so they can stay together and try to win together. i would think they would want to stay together.
also, as of right now none of the 3 have the point totals that tavares has, so why would you think that they're gonna get a raise on tavares contract? JT's contract will most definetly be used as a comparision for ebs, and hall for sure, nuge still has one more year yet to prove he deserves more money than JT. i personally think ebs and hall will sign a taveres type contract for a shade above, or a shade below, but very similar to JT's deal nonetheless.
at this point Tavares > Hall and unless Hall breaks out next season 5M should be fair for him.
The idea is to not set an outrageous precedent. You give Hall a 7M deal and then everyone else will look for something comparable.
if the number has to be 6M then so be it.. It will just take 4M away from cap that couldve been used on another key peice.
Also, I would hope that all the 'big kids' get the exact same amount as salary so there is no jealousy etc. Dont want 'oh he makes more so its his team'
I'd like to see Hall and Eberle get identical contracts at 5.5-6M and then do what the Canucks, Wings and probably some other teams do. No one makes more than Lidstrom. No one makes more than the Sedins. No one will make more than Hall and Eberle.

That rule only holds if RNH and Yakupov don't become superior players.
If RNH is on the pp and pk, plays 20+ minutes, is solid on faceoffs and produces 90+ points, he could certainly make more cash.
I don't think it'll be hard to manage this contracts once Horcoff and Hemsky are ditched.
All of these guys can easily be kept at a reasonable rate. My hope is that the team wins and can get guys locked into Detroit and Chicago style deals.

not unless we are planning on landing a big fish via UFA. Suter this offseason or Weber the next
most of the good NHL teams invest ~20M on D and ~5M in net. This includes teams like PIT and VAN who dont even have a clear #1 star Dman.
Things might tighten down as our D becomes better. (Smid's and Petry's next contracts, addition of other top 4 Dmen etc)

This is something I really want as well. All 3 (4 if we draft Yakupov) are equally important to this team and should be paid as such. I'm sure it won't happen, but it would be nice if Tambo did this and made it very clear to ALL of them from the start, not just Hall and Ebs even

Nuge getting 80+ points would mean one or both of Hall and Ebs also getting 80+ points. They will get compared at contract negotiations.. would RNH want 7M when both Ebs and Hall are making 5.5M? especially if the production is similar.
the trick will be getting hall and eberle to sign equal deals, thsi forces RNH and Yakupov to either take the same deal or hold on the basis that they are better than the other 2. RNH doesnt seem like the type to stand above the team and say he is $xxx better than hall. I dont know Yakupovs off ice persona so i wont speculate.
if these guys can get inked for 5.5/6 for 5/6yr we are laughing, for a long time

The problem is agents.
Eberle has Smyth's dumb agent

1. Well, i expect them to sign fair deals ala kane+toews, tavares IMO accepted a real lowball offer.
2. JT signed his deal after his second season in which he scored 67 points. Eberle has just scored 76 points in his second season. Patrick Kane scored 72 points as a rookie, and 70 as a sophomore. Kane's second contract (6.3) also began 3 years earlier than eberle's will, with inflation, we can expect a difference in the cap of 10-15M.

Youre right, hall does need to stay healthy, and put up higher totals to earn a bigger contract, however if he can, his scoring pace indicates he will be right with tavares, toews, kane.

the problem with this whole thread is people are assuming they know what the cap situation and the CBA will look like next year and the year after

true but at the end of the day its up to eberle. take what hall got or hold out for more and forever be known as the guy who thought he was better than hall? These kids are smart and i think they plan on playing together for a long time.
but they idea remains the same... set the bar with Hall and hand out similar if not identical contracts to the 3 (or 4) kids.
doesnt matter if the cap decreases to 50M or increases to 100M ..
I think we will see the 3 canadians get signed to equal length/money at around 6.5 mil. Yakupov will be on ELC when we're supposed to be "good" and we will reevaluate when he hits RFA.

Unfortuneatly the kids have Agents that will try to squeeze out more juice of the orange than may be possible. Just saying.
Tavares and Neal both got long term deals at 5.5 each. Neal this year after putting up 40 goals, and Tavares last year I believe. So, the kids will most likely getting a little bit more than that. One thing that worries me is if we make Hall and Ebs contract the same length, the both hit UFA at the same time later down the road. I'm scared of it becoming an issue of us having to choose one of them.
