Plekanec is the only valuable piece in there and we're keeping him, for now.
No offence, but to suggest teams wouldn't like to add Markov or Gionta is nuts. Having said that, their value is down a bit given current circumstances, but I GUARANTEE you they'd get decent offers for both.

Markov has played what, less than 25 games the last 2 years combined? I don't care how good a Dman he is, he could be Bobby Orr, but if he's never on the ice, he has very little value.
Same for Gionta (although he hasn't missed as much time as Markov, he's missed significant time this year, and struggled mightily when he's been in the lineup).
You would probably get something for them (more so Gionta than Markov) but no team is giving you anything remotely close to what their value would have been had they been playing and performing up to their contracts (in which case, you probably wouldn't be wanting to trade them in the first place).

I agree there. They're of more value to Montreal than they are on the trade market. This is the worst time to trade them as it'd be the ultimate in selling low. But I still think people are naive if they don't think Montreal would get multiple offers for the services of either.
Plekanec can not go anywhere (unless for a cant-miss deal)
mark my words, he will be ESSENTIAL in Eller's development (i see Eller being a very solid 2-way 2nd line C in his prime, similar to Pleks)
even as Plek gets up there in age, he will be a great mentor to our young guys like Leblanc, Eller, Galchenyuk/Grigorenko, etc.
i think no matter what direction the Habs go in, they need to keep Plek and Cole, those 2 guys have a lot to teach the younger players about the subtleties of the game IMO
Thus year was a terrible one in almost every way. They were a one line team. Gionta had no one to get him the puck and no chemistry with plekanec. They thought Gomez was that guy but he's been terrible and won't be there next season. Maybe a different coach and philosophy towards offense will help. Lets just hope they pick the right player thus year and he's a true superstar in the making. It's been a long time

I agree with this. There is no need to rush trading these 2 guys now when thier value is so low. If they stay healthy and put up good numbers then at the deadline next year, They might be worth ALOT.
Gionta would be worth more at the deadline, but if Montreal looks to change house this summer I could see him being a decent alternative once the free agent market gets overpriced quickly as Parise, Semin, Parenteau and others get contracts.
Depending on what Sherman was thinking, I might even be interested in him from a Colorado perspective prior to free agency. He could be an additional American voice along with Staz, Mueller and EJ to try and entice Suter and/or Parise to Denver and his veteran presence and reasonable production would be helpful.
I have to imagine he'd be a good fit for someone like Duchene.
mr. insane....I am bitterly dissapointed in your OP. When I saw your name on a thread I was fully looking forward to another of your crazy one-sided proposals.
The only thing that matter on draft day for Montreal is to draft Malcom Subban.
Do whatever reasonable move it take, im fine with it.
Use a high 2nd round pick on a goalie when you already have a 24 year old franchise goalie on the team? Aren't the stupid moves supposed to stop with new management coming in?

What about using a 5th overall pick in 2005 on a goalie (Price) when you already have a Vezina and Hart Trophy (Theodore) winner on your team?
Is that the kind of stupid move you hope will be stopped with a new management ?

Subban would still be 3 yrs away from being an NHL goalie.. He can back Price up for a couple more seasons before taking over. Drafting a top ranked goalie at this stage would not be bad.

Theodore won the awards back in 2002 and his play dropped after that. He also wasn't 24 years old when they drafted Price, I think he was actually 30 at the time. That pick made sense.

Theodore was 28yo and the season before we drafted Price he was still a top 10 goalies in the league in about every stats.
Both was franchise goalie. At the time we drafted Price, many questioned the move because we already had Theodore.
You draft the best avaible player, even if you are deep at a position and you can move up/down if you think it worth it.
Since Malcom Subban grew up as a Montreal fan, and the chance he could play with his big brother, i think it worth it to take a look at drafting him.
Why drafting Price while you have already a Franchise goalie in Theodore when you can instead draft a forward like Brule or Skille, or a defenseman like Brian Lee ?
But if you have Park Place and Boardwalk, I believe you can already build houses and hotels, no?
Flawed logic.
I say they are ''like'' Boardwalk and Park place, but they are not. You can only build house and Hotel if you have 2 or 3 players from the same family.
If you want to build House with Price you need to acquire his second Cousin Shane Doan.
(at least according to my NHL Monopoly home rules!)
