Solid win, pretty much how the Rangers want to play to win this series. Solid defense that didn't give Ottawa a whole lot, Lundqvist played well, and they forechecked well, forced turnovers, and capitalized.
PP could stand some improvement though
Even letting up a bit and giving up those 2 goals is probably a good thing in the long run. Gives them something to work on for game 2 and a reminder that the Sens can strike quickly
Also amazed that Sens fans think that the Sens outplayed the Rangers and could have "won that game if not for a lucky 15 minutes"
For the majority of the game the Rangers dictated the pace and didn't give the Senators much to work with. Pretty much the entire game was played on the Rangers terms and they were rewarded for that with a 4-0 lead.
I think the Rangers would be happy with the way they played the games and the Sens would want to do things differently if they could. It wasn't just a few lucky bounces and the Sens missing some chances

Indeed. With the exception of their 10 minute stretch of pressure, we controlled the flow of play. Things moved at the pace we wanted things to move, and the puck usually went to the areas we wanted it to be.
SO glad we came out big tonight and sealed the win. Should be good for confidence going forward.
One thing that was a bit frustrating at times was our inability to CLEAR THE PUCK out of our zone, our D would just throw the puck up the boards straight to their point men, and they would just start the cycle all over again. We have to be quicker in breaking out of our zone and make smarter passes.
McD seemed real nervous in the beginning of the game when he was losing the puck left and right but he seemed to solidify as time went on.
They got a taste of what the first round will be like... now it's time to perfect our game.
Been a problem all year. Its a system thing, we like to chip pucks out to the neutral zone in hopes of resetting our D when the opposing team reenters the zone.
We concede the half wall a little too much and I wish our wings would make better reads when to pursue the puck along the walls. They have a tendency to try to stack the slot too much.
Just wondering is there a derogatory term for Sens like there is for Rangers? Because if there is we probably should include it next GDT's title. Stay classy Ottawa.
I officially lost all respect for Michalek and Spezza. Don't know if it was mentioned, but the fans booed, we saw. Those ****s put on their helmets and skated off the blue line and around their half of the rink after "land of the free". All respect lost.
I saw that and I booed them. I know some players start skating around the end of "braaaaave," but that was way too early.
I'm usually not a fan of the "USA! USA!" chant but I didn't mind it tonight because Michalek and Spezza showed little regard for the national anthem.
Hey Jason, how do you handle things out there being a Rangers fan>
I'm sure it builds character, right? I hope you wear a t-shirt or cap with '94 on it.
Good for you, anyways.
I get by just swell
All the hate makes my passion stronger.
I hate to talk like this but it is true that the haters only make me stronger
I get harassed once in a while especially after we lost last year and the canucks won in game 7 vs. the hawks.
I showed up at the downtown Vancouver viewing for SCF game 7 where all the riots went down (got outta there early) and it was nice to be like Waldo. The one guy in the crowd of thousands going under the radar enjoying their loss.
Just got home from the bar after a ton of drinks, but here is my quick analysis (point form of course)
- Anisimov looked ****ing awesome tonight, he was flying and creating chances
- McD looked awesome as well, he was a force on the defensive end
- Richards was a plus, him and hagelin were buzzing hard
- Karlson scares me everytime he touches the puck, that kid can PLAY
Just got home from the Garden...wow, it was rocking. There is nothing like playoff hockey! And damn, kinda drunk and gotta wake up for work in the morning....smh.
From my perspective at the game, it seemed like everyone played well for the most part. Some players had shaky first halves (Hagelin, Gabby, etc.) but really settled in towards the second half of the game. Our playoff first-timers such as Del Zotto looked pretty good and not as nervous as I thought they would be.
Anisimov looks better than he did in last year's playoffs, although he needs to be alert because I did notice some Sens were targeting him. Dubi-Boyle-Feds is a line that is built for the playoffs and I think they will score a big goal at some point. Staal looked great, he is starting to hit his stride. Callahan was beastly in the first half, and Lundqvist, of course, was phenomenal. I wish the team didn't let up late in the game so he could get the shutout but oh well.

I completely agree.
In my opinion (if I may add):
-Stepan needs to grow a pair. The dude is soft and is invisible come playoff time. Prove me wrong, kid!
-MDZ's first playoff game and I thought he was hesitant and rusty. Hopefully he'll get that out of him.
Ottawa has been successful against us this year by both screening Hank and deflecting shots. I hope those last 2 (mostly the beautiful first goal by Alfie) won't be forgotten in the Ranger's locker room.
I thought the game was closer than the 4-0 indicated. But I also feel that the 4-2 final didn't indicate how well we played either.
I dont have an issue with randon fans using it. Haters gonna hate. However seeing a moderator use the word 'Rags' as part of the GDT title. That just rubbed me the wrong way.
Pretty sure you can report it. Especially since it is a rule now.

Long and the short:
I thought they played about as perfect a game one as they could have wished for.
Everyone chipped in. They played their game. Kids got their feet wet. They forced their will. They won.

I caught that but I don't think they did it on purpose. It was extremely loud during the anthem and I think they thought it was over and started skating. Once they realized it wasn't, they stopped and as Amirante got out the last word they started skating again.
