They're not going to throw him away, but his value couldn't be lower right now....

George McPhee....The Teflon GM. 15 years of failure and counting....
6 - Number of playoff series the Capitals have won since George McPhee took over as General Manager in 1997 (which makes him the third-longest-tenured GM in the League), three of which came in McPhee's first season on the job.
It sucks because he's gonna rebound really well next year, but we just gotta move him out. The way he loafed around on that power play, I've seen enema'd out possums in a hot tub give more of a ****. Just cannot have that in the organization from a mentality pov.
A classic example of what I have been saying about 52 happened last night on the turnover before Holtby took a penalty....
He tries to deke around a player with liitle/no support behind him......it doesnt work and its a great scoring chance the other way. This is the exact type of move he did against the Flyers and Richards didnt bite....took the puck....and scored
this is not a risk/reward play....its a stupid play and its the kind of thing he just keeps doing. To me it wasnt his rushing the puck or his play in the D end that kept him off the national team.....its this kind of rookie mistake, and he keeps doing it.
Its not that he takes risks....its that he takes risks while already making risky plays. He need to know when to get rid of the puck....both while carrying it or just when collecting dump ins and the like
i thought it was interesting that mcguire commented in game 1 that green had lost his quickness. i dont think he has lost his speed. his unusually easy stride remains and he closes on guys in open ice before.
but it may well be that his change of direction another short movements have been damaged by the injury.
that said, dennis wideman in the past 14 games playoffs included has 2 pts. john carlson has 2 pts in those 14 games. green has 1pts.
i'd suggest that hunter changed something because there is no scoring at all from the blue line.
That's why a GM has to figure out what system he wants to play, and find the right coaches/players. There was a debate about Green for a while, but this version of Green at least in Hunter's system is not worth the 5M+.
Green has never been a guy to do a lot of stops and starts. He's one of these "efficient stride" guys that hates to spend energy on quick shifts of direction. He's been trying to do more of that I guess, but it's part of his hockey DNA.
Coming off a major injury and isn't putting up anywhere near the numbers he has in the past.
I was wondering what it would take to acquire Green's RFA rights for Vancouver?

I don't see anything on Vancouver besides Kesler. The rest is all meh
Good for them doesn't mean he's going to get traded for any of your mediocre prospects and other crap
Fair enough I know how it is with Canuck players, but theres no way his worth is Edler or Kesler, if it was one of those 2 there would be a + by Mike Green. He's coming off a major injury and in almost half a season hasn't been anywhere close to the player he was pre-injury.

Great selling him for nothing is worse than keeping him.
Aren't the Canucks the only presidents trophy team in history that's going to be swept?
Dude, why the **** are you so bitter? The guy just asked a question and you're giving him a crap ton of attitude.
Agreed. The idea that the Green playing now is going to bring back someone on Edler's or Kesler's level is ludicrous. And it isn't as if losing this Green now for something less that those 2 players is going to be a death blow to the Caps fortunes.
That being said his past accomplishments and the fact that it could easily be said that his problems are very much injury related and thus could easily go away he is worth more than just the player he is now.
So yeah not worth Kesler or Edler by himself but also not going to come exactly cheap. So lets start over with what Canucks fans are offering for Green?
talking to fans about what they want as if that is what the team wants is a big mistake.
yes, there are green haters here. been that way a while. many of those would give green away to clear the cap space. that way they could still hate on mcphee and get green off the team.
closer to reality is that replacing a player like green is a lot harder than helping him get his game back together, be it injury rehab and playing rehab. if green's game were to return to its peak performance, he would be irreplaceable and trading him for almost anything would turn out a bad move.
i'd be shocked if the caps dumped green for a pile of pucks.
