A former San Francisco 49ers football player was arrested in Scottsdale Sunday after he punched a bar security guard in the head, police said.
Scottsdale police arrested Dontavia Bogan, 23, around 10 p.m. Sunday at El Hefe Tacos, 4425 N. Saddlebag Trail.
The 49ers announced the release of the wide receiver on Friday, one day after Bogan was medically cleared to return to play after recovering from a knee injury.
Well 1st of all this probably happened in December or January and Parcells is leaking it for leverage.
Secondly. I've been advocating the Vikings get Parcells in some capacity as GM or coach or both since he left Dallas and I would have LOVED this. But apparently he didn't want to come back at the time. Because it obviously wasn't about money if the reports are true and Zygi handed him a blank check.
As much as I want Parcells if for some reason this was an option NOW (and I don't think it is) it would be stupid to do as it's too late in the process. Because Bill would want his own guys and he would have to hire a staff, do draft prep all over (And he already missed the combine/Pro Days), etc in 3 weeks. Who knows he might not even like Ponder. So it would be 1 step forward 3 steps back. In typical Vikings fashion we'd have more dissaray.
IF and its a big IF Parcells is out there and still wants to come back in January 2013 then you explore this move again. Especailly if Frazier/Spielman flop again and they Vikes show no hope for the future.

Jaguars DT Terrance Knighton underwent eye surgery Sunday after an incident supposedly at a night club. Everybody is pretty unsure of the severity and recovery time. I hope him a speedy recovery first and foremost, and also hope this doesn't effect his career. One of the more underrated players in the league.
Bucs cut S Tanard Jackson. The guy is really talented, but in the past has had troubles with the law and drugs. Got suspended for a year from the league due to it.
Wouldn't surprise me if this was a Marshall type deal where something will come out later.

Now count how many of them are older than Steve Smith. Go ahead, take your time. Done yet?
Reggie Wayne. That is it.
That harsh reality you can't seem to come to grips with is that WR is a young man's position. And the end comes fast.
Steve Smith is 32... the end of the line isn't far off. Might not be next year, but he faces LONG odds to remain a 1000+ yard WR much longer.
He will be 33 next season. Of the 30-some 1000+ yard seasons posted over the past two years, guess how many were done by WRs 33 or older? None. You had a handful in 2009, but WRs who remain starters well into their 30's are few and far between.
Why you think Steve Smith is some magical exception is beyond me.

He is still recovering from a shoulder injury and failed his physical.
Could be looking at Tuesday the 17th for the schedule release, per the rumor mills. ESPN currently has a three-hour SportsCenter special blocked off that evening right now.
