I hope he stays in Vancouver long term. I want to light him up like a Christmas tree a few years down the line when all of our kids are coming into their own while Vancouver is past their due date.

lol I thought he was smarter than that. The kids are going to have a blast lighting him up like a Christmas tree for the next 15 years.

That's assuming the Canucks sign him to a contract similar to Dipietro.

This just came across my mind. What if Vanek did sign with us when Lowe laid the offersheet on him? We would've given up 5 first round picks.

Maybe we wouldn't end up last, but.......the Sabres would be unstoppable.
Miller between the pipes.

Tyler Myers on the backend.

Then you've got Hall, RNH, soon Yakupov, Stafford, Roy, Pominville, Foligno, etc...,

It wasn't too long ago that we were looking for a sniper alongside Hemsky, sounds like nobody's been talking about what Hemsky can do with a sniper.

Hemsky was rounding back into form late in the season. It's not what RNH, Eberle and Hall can do with Yakupov. I think the question is what Hemsky can do with someone who actually shoots the puck blasting down the wing.

Just when Hemsky was rounding back into form, Hall got injured.

You also only get 4 first rounders, not 5.

If Tambo does what we did with Doan and Kelly, the fans will want his head on a plate. I'm sure of it.

Just imagine:

Nail! Nail! Nail! Nail! Nail! Nail!

"With the first overall selection in the 2012 Entry Draft, the Edmonton Oilers are proud to select, from the Everett Silvertips, Ryan Murray"

They should keep him but they'll trade him for multiple players... likely a centre and a dman in a possible 3 way deal. Columbus and Toronto high on the list of potential teams that will be involved.

Worst trading partners. TO have nothing we can't get with other spare parts combinations (unlikely they trade Gardiner, and trading the top pick for a guy with only 1 season under is belt would be stupid, not a proven player), and Columbus already have to move Nash, which we should have zero interest in, so I doubt they move any of Wiz, Johansen or JJ, so basically, nothing of significance.

Really curious to know how that scenario works in your head, unless we're getting screwed real hard.

Oilers are my religion..

Moved from Prince George a couple years ago. I used to post here and in the all-time draft. Had to take a break from all the negativity.

I'm a Horcoff fan.

Right on, i hear ya, love the site, but the negativity is retarded on here sometimes.

And as for trading with CBus and/or TO, no way, neither team has anything that is remotely close to worth the Yak...bad idea (same goes for the habs and the isles). Never look a gift horse in the mouth. This is (or at least should be considered) a slam dunk no-brainer, if anyone has any doubts, look at the poll.

Remember the scuttlebut about the Oilers loving Cam Fowler in 2010, and considering taking him?

Fowler's a great player but if they passed on Hall/traded down, I don't think Oiler fans would be too happy right now.

I think we're looking at the exact same scenario this year.

It will be a good offseason.

If they can do all of the above and rid themselves of Horcoff's contract through trade or amnesty clause and bring in Chris Kelly or Jason Arnott (on a short-term contract) to replace him, it will be a GREAT offseason.
Agree 100% - pretty simple plan that will improve this team.

I just hope that Tambo does not go crazy with his all of his "options" and trades the first pick for 2 birds in a bush....

You don't like that trade? I think Schultz has been very competent defensively which is something Gilbert never had in his game. I like that trade.

LOL at the poll being 133-1. I'll take a wild guess and say that us Oilers fans kinda like this Yakupov kid.
I'm surprised that there aren't a few more votes for established NHLer. If the pick was offered for Pietrangelo, Doughty or maybe even OEL, we couldn't turn that down but those guys obviously won't be on the table.

Ok guys, you officially changed my mind, I'm all for yakupov now.

But Tambellini better do something to help bring in a Top 4 d-man.

The only deals I'd really consider from those teams look like this:

To Toronto - 1st overall pick

To Edmonton - Jake Gardiner, 5th overall pick (Forsberg, Galchenyuk or Grigorenko - the Islanders at least will take a d-man), 2nd round pick

OR

To Columbus - 1st overall pick

To Edmonton - Ryan Johansen, 2nd overall pick

OR

To Columbus - 1st overall pick, Shawn Horcoff, 2nd round pick 2013

To Edmonton - 2nd overall pick, Rick Nash (to flip Nash for other pieces, don't want his contract)

Needless to say, I don't expect us to finalize a deal, lol.

That is where I am at too. If the return is incredible, I would be ok with trading the pick but for the most part 1 is the best option.
