It makes no sense, he's a young goalie with no play-off experience and this tournament would only be good for his development. There are players younger/much older than him whose season will end in June, and he is gassed by early April?
I think Pavelec just doesn't want to participate, and is using this "my club won't let me go" crap as an excuse.
In the articles i'd seen before this whole incident, they always mentioned how Pavelec was excited to go should Jets fail to make the play-offs, which obviously was a priority for him.
So no, i don't think he is making this up, he needs to negotiate a new contract, so it's quite understandable he doesn't want to do anything which would make it more difficult than it needs to be.
Also, i don't think this will turn out to be an issue for us, we have some quality goalies here in europe.
As for whoever who said how NA hockey rules and everything european sucks - well, believe it or not - there are people here in europe who say the same about NA leagues, "all dump and chase and no combination" etc... obviously, both sides are misguided, the WC has had some pretty awesome games in its history, especially come elimination rounds, it's a different hockey than NHL, it's hockey a true fan can appreciate for what it is.
Also, there are NA players scattered all over european leagues, including the KHL, sure, the best NA players play in the NHL, the same way as the best european players play in the NHL, there is absolutely no advantage to european teams in the sense of player availability, the only difference is that the WC gets little coverage in the NA and the players are less likely to represent, that's why the teams usually fare worse than they should, given the talent available(out of playoffs).
The fact is that other Jets are being allowed to go by the Jets. they've just asked Pavs not to go. So it's not like the tournament would cease to exist. The Jets have spent time and money developing Pavs, and are banking on him being their #1 tender, so if he got hurt its not as though the Jets are negatively effected by it. Honestly, I'm not sure I even believe the Jets asked him not to go. I just think that its within reason that they could request him to sit out.
developing ? are you kidding ? you bought a complete player... lawl
look everyone else is allowed to go, what kind of policy is this?
i suppose if you got to the playoffs he would be advised to not be in net as well?..
what a joke
Didn't the Czechs just win Gold two years ago and Bronze last year? It's not like Pavs was your only hope to break a long medal drought. He'll still be around next year.

We're trying to screw your team.
We've singled out Pavs and the Czech team and decided that we don't like you, thus we're doing everything we can to make you lose.

P.S. We all love Pavs, but if he's fully developed and this is as complete as he'll get, we're in trouble.

Ladd with a really nice goal - kicked a pass off his skate, then a quick release to the top left corner. He's really got an under-rated shot. 3-1 Canada, with 4:20 ( ) left in the 2nd.
