I'm concerned with the lack of speed on a Lilja-Kubina pairing. It's a tough call because Gus has that speed but he lacks the playoff experience and potential physical game that Kubina of the past has brought. Most likely will be Kubina but he needs to go into rage mode along with Coburn to amp up their games.
In Brière's post-game interview, Maguire asked about Bourdon going down with an injury. Brière immediately pumped up Kubina joining the line-up because he's big, can play physically and has won a Cup. It was odd that he didn't in any way say he hoped Bourdon would be back, injury not too serious, etc.; just seemed ecstatic that Kubina would dress for the next game.
It's part of the TSN videos, entitled Briere 1-on-1; sorry, but there's no direct link to the video.

Hopefully Grossmann shook off the cobwebs last night, he didnt look great. His knee must still be sore
I really hope this isn't another concussion for MAB's sake...
This would absolutely be the worst case scenario for him.
Would be the second concussion this season.
And his third in two years if I remember it correctly - I think he sustained a mild one during a fight when playing with the Phantoms last year.
Only reason rhis is an issue at all is we're playing Pittsburgh. Against normal teams u'd shrug and simply point out every team int he world's third D pairing is weak... u just dont play em much.
Trouble is Pittsburgh has the Malkin line, Crosby line, and Staal line so u simply cant shield even the third pairing from playing vs some good players.
Wish we had an opponent with less depth than Pitts. I even fear the forward depth of Bruins, Kelly and Pouliot / Peverly are awful good for a third line.
For that reason I think Rags and NJ are 1000 times better opponent for us than Bruins and Pitts.
Somehow this reminds me of last year, when Nödl was officially day-to-day with a facial injury but never played a playoff game again because he had a concussion but Homer wouldn't reveal it to the public.
as long as he's not out there against a top scoring line, he's fine
And as long as Lilja isn't choosing to pinch and leaving him alone to defend. I honestly don't know why Lilja even considers pinching, it NEVER works out.

In game 2 his pinches were pretty good and almost generated a few goals. Game 3 he was pinching loaves all over the ice. He's like that though..inconsistent...kind of like ShanaSCAM with his suspensions or lack thereof when it comes to higher profile players...
What happened with Gus? I thought he was playing better than MAB and Lilja. Has he been injured or did he get the boot? I'd still prefer Lilja-Kubina until Mez is healthy.
If it was a top 6, my guess is Sam C. would have emphasized that.
okay thanks. Good that they are prepping him in case he gets action

Team has always preferred MAB, likely due to his size
