Best defensemen born 1990 or later

Just curious what people think in regards to who the best young defenders are in the league. I picked 1990 just to have a nice round number.

My top six

RD
Alex Pietrangelo
Erik Karlsson
Tyler Myers

Alternate

Zach Bogosian

LD

Oliver Ekman-Larsson
Victor Hedman
Dmitry Kulikov

Alternate

Michael Del Zotto

I'm interested to hear your opinions and of course why I am so horribly horribly wrong.

Alex Pietrangelo (Lidstrom Jr) is better than all the defenseman listed put together. He's a beast.

Carlson and Leddy were both born in 90/91. Bit of a down year for Carlson but I think he's been better so far than Hedman. I think Carlson ends up being better than Bogosian. Leddy has had a decent year minus one blimp.

Don't forget Larsson whose rookie year imo was better than Hedman's.

OEL played over 31 minutes tonight in his first playoff game ever. He's 20. He plays for Tippett.

So Doughty misses by 20 days?

I'll say Pietrangelo, I guess.

At least 100 NHL games played.

I'll probably go with Karlsson, Pietrangelo, Myers, Carlson, Hamonic and Fowler. But it's really tough to pass up Del Zotto, Ekman-Larsson and Kulikov.

sure, he has loads of potential... but how can you include a defenseman running at -53 over 2 seasons? kinda points to him being a liability in his own end... something its tough to like in a D-man, no matter how good they are offensively.

Rather have P.K born in 89 over some of these players listed

Fair enough, I'll go with Del Zotto then. But I want to mention that I don't think you should go solely by +/-. Bogosian, for example, had a bad 09-10 season (-18) followed by a disastrous 10-11 (-27), but seems to have rebounded this season - 30 points to go with a -3.

You and me both. I wouldn't say no to having Doughty or Schenn on my team either. But the OP specified defensemen born 1990 or later.

I would have to go with Erik Karlsson now, but in the long term I think Alex Pietrangelo will become the better of the two, a much more well rounded dman.

Pretty much this. I think both will be towards the top of the league for a long time though.

make that for sure. This kid is a monster big reason why he was given the clear exception to play in the OHL at the age of 15. Great talent and plays with a solid physical edge. He will be mix combination of Lidstorm and Pronger, IMO.
