Okay this doesn't really surprise me, and, like everyone else says, haters gonna hate...
Leafs = everyone's favourite team to hate, I get it, but the real stupidity of the people answering the polls shows in the lower sections.
Toronto was rated the most arrogant team: ... a team is arrogant? how? by saying we have the best fans? ... every team says that.
Toronto was rated the dirtiest Canadian team: we had the 9th fewest PIMs this regular season - LEAST out of all Canadian teams
Toronto was rated the most boring Canadian team: really? a team which played the vast majority of the year with a run-and-gun style, who scored the 10th most goals and had the 2nd most goals against is the more boring team?
Toronto was rated the most in decline: You can debate how well or not well the rebuild is going, but to say they are the MOST in decline is just insane. How can a team which has missed the playoffs 7 years in a row still be in decline?
Toronto was named the most overrated team: again, how can a team which is THIS bad, which has missed the playoffs for so many years, be OVERRATED?
I'm all for everyone having their own opinions.. but it bothers me that people can be so willfully ignorant of objective statements and facts.
My 2 Cents as someone who grew up a leafs fan outside of Toronto.
The main reason the Leafs are so Hated outside of Toronto is based on the fact that as far as the so called "National" broadcasters CBC and (tounge in cheek) Toronto Sports Networks main coverage is always the Leafs.
The rest of the country to be honest is just sick and tired about hearing about the leafs 24/7.
The Oilers, Flames, Sens, Jets, Canucks are alway second fiddle to the leafs no matter how horrible they are.
Not to mention there is always a large number of Leaf fans in other cities home areanas who are usually loud and obnoxious.
Just my 2 cents.

People just hate the Leafs so they'll vote them worsrt in every category. Same with a Leaf winning every single negative Sports Illustrated poll.

Excellent, it's how it all should be. Let the whiners whine, their tears make my wine taste so sweet.
Who really cares if other cities hate the Leafs? It's not as if we're challenging the rest of the league with our constant winning.
I'd really like them to do a poll about revenue production/equalization...and the willingness of failing NHL cities to sup up the Leafs' cash generation. I'd love to know whether the fans of other teams who think the Leafs are dirty; disrespected; in decline; and over rated are fine cheering for a team without any financial contribution from Toronto

When you have those avatars it clearly means you're annoyed by it .
I'm not one bit annoyed by the Leafs being hated. It's been pretty clear since Day 1 that the Leafs are the most loved and hated team in Canada.
Haters will hate the Leafs no matter what. Fans will love the Leafs no matter what.
I'm just annoyed because the Leafs are probably one of the least dirtiest teams in the league I don't know how they're dirty.
Leafs don't dive like the Canucks, Kessel doesn't flop on the ice like Kesler does, we don't have cheap shot artists like the Canucks had in Raffi Torres last year or players that are all talk and not much like Lappierre or Subban. We don't have Chris Neil who runs around looking to fight rookies.
Look at the SI Polls...Dion Phaneuf most overrated. What? Overpaid sure.. but I'm not sure we're overrating him. What exactly is he being overrated to? Bobby Orr?
No...99% of Leaf Nation know what they have in Phaneuf, and that is a solid top pairing defenseman that has his moments of weakness in his own zone but is a tough player.
Actually, the thread title is inaccurate. The poll shows the Leafs to be most hated Canadian NHL team among Canadians. I don't think that qualifies as most hated team in hockey.
It mainly stems from hate of Toronto and it carries over to the Leafs. Sad because I dont think most people know why they even have Toronto , they just do
And I think everyone would agree that the hatred is almost completely unwarranted, right? LOL. One day the Leafs will deserve their hate, and that's when they become an elite team again. But at this point it's really strange for other fanbases to hate such a bad team.

That article is rigged. Doesn't even talk about # of people surveyed, or the demographics.
I didn't go through entire article, but it lost credibility to me, when it said Atlantic Canada had least favorable opinion, IN ENTIRE CANADA(!), on Crosby, and also, that Atlantic Canada (primarly a Bruins/Habs zone) disliked the Leafs less than people in Ontario.

Oh, and of course I can see Brian Burke being hated. I couldn't stand him when he was with the Canucks. Well, I'm not exactly crazy about him with the Leafs either.
