This is the most hockey I've seen on tv in the US in quite some time. People will ***** about anything I guess. I think the coverage has been phenomenal almost all season.
Yeah, good point. NBC really has went out of their way to air as much hockey as possible, glitches aside... and better yet, it's all in HD (a sticking point of NHL Center Ice.)
I'm not saying the coverage isn't great, it is. I'll check for alt. channels in the future. I'm not even a hawks or yotes fan, I just worried that I wouldn't be able to see all of the game which was what I thought was advertised.
Believe me, I remember the days when every playoff game wasn't shown at all.
Here a customer support email address for NBC Sports. I encourage everyone to tell them how awful their management of the broadcasts are and how ridiculous it is that they blackout Gamecenter/Center Ice even for games they aren't showing due to overtime.
Well ya, it should be against the law to blackout games you are not showing yet due to the last game going into OT. You can't tell me that they cant make the change to disable the blackout on Gamecenter/Center Ice when it goes live on NBC instantly with today's technology.

Not sure what you mean sticking point of NHL Center Ice. On cable they only have a couple channels that are HD, and most are not in HD, and DirecTV has all of the games in HD. Bordcasting the game in HD has nothing to do with NHL Center Ice and everything to due with the cable/sat provider.
You pay for Center Ice as per their terms from the start of the season. The playoffs were never part of it. You can't complain that you're not getting something you never agreed to pay for.
I'm not making any argument on legal grounds. My argument is that the first two rounds of the playoffs used to be included in the sports package. NBC bought the rights and their coverage isn't as good. It's certainly nice that so many more games are available nationally, but it's a crappy thing to do to the people who pay a lot more than casual fans. Is the value of a single viewer in terms of potential advertising revenue really as much as a Center Ice subscriber?

I guess that depends what cable you have. Comcast has every channel in HD as well as duplicates.
Coverage has been awesome. There has been six hours of playoff hockey on two nights in a row.

Actually, they use to be included, until the Conference finals. The restriction was any game viewable nationally had a forty-eight delay from the time it finished. Not certain why this stopped. Incidentally, many people would pay an additional rate for online playoff coverage.

Yeah - used to be. That was then. This is now. Read my first sentence again. From the start of the season. NBC's net contract kicked in this season, the one where every playoff game is on national TV. They didn't really keep that a secret. It's one's own ignorance if they paid for Center Ice and expected playoff games.
This is the first time maybe ever but definitely since the ESPN days where all of the first round games are nationally televised and someone is actually *****ing about the coverage. Unbelievable. If you didn't have the alternate channel blame your cable provider, I was able to flip to the Hawks game during the Bruins intermission because DirecTV carries the alternate channel.
Never mind lol... Bruins just won but my point still stands. I thought NHL network would pick up the games but besides a short live look in, I had to wait til bruins game was over to see yotes/hawks.. that's really dumb.
Some one called into NHL live yesterday and asked the commish himself this question. Bettman responded that should something like this happen that the PHX/CHI game should go STRAIGHT to the NHL network.
The coverage has been phenomenal. We are seeing all of the playoff series in the first round. What more could you possibly ask for?
The only thing I'd like is for there to be some kind of Sportscenter cutaway equivalent during games. Like when I was watching Detroit/Nashville the other night and Philadelphia won their game in OT. They should've given the update and cut to the highlight during one of the stoppages.
All playoff games nationally televised in HD for the first time ever, and people are still complaining. And if you don't get CNBC or the NHL Network, blame your cable provider, not the NHL. For once the latter actually got it right.
Hmmm...According to the NHL's web site the Yotes/Hawks game wasn't scheduled to be shown on the NHL network. Here's what they have:
TSN,NBCSN,RDS,CSN-CH (HD),FS-A PLUS (HD)
Anyway, all the networks have an alternate channel if there's a possibility of an OT game cutting into the next scheduled game. You just may need to go look for the channel.
Also if you go to NHL.com they have an option to put in your zip and it'll give you the game channels in your area.
I agree about the coverage. Awesome!
Coverage can't be beat. Every game is on in every market, start to finish, if you take a few minutes to find the right channel. Maybe the lesson here is that they need to make it more obvious what is on where if people are having a hard time finding the game they're interested in.
NBC is really getting behind the NHL and it's amazing. And they're being rewarded with some really top notch sporting events! And this is just the FIRST ROUND! So pumped.

What don't you understand? You must be as dense as you're insinuating I am. I clearly understand its not offered anymore. The point is there is no longer ANY service available that will guarantee the broadcast of playoff games to me, no matter how much I pay to whomever. Literally the only thing I could do is cancel my cable provider and get a satellite provider that has NBC's overflow channels, which is a hell of a lot of trouble. Much more so than just letting me to go GameCenter or NBC Sports website and watching the game while I wait for the other overtime games to end.
The NHL has taken a step backward in the availability of its content. I'm not even arguing that they shouldn't have sold the rights to NBC because clearly it gets the games seen by many more people, and I certainly would have appreciated it years ago when I didn't have money for the full package. But it's ridiculous that they'd allow these half-game long gaps in broadcasts with no available alternative for some people when previously there was an alternative.
You really think I'm not justified in being upset that I used to be able to pay to watch every playoff game in its entirety and I no longer can?

That's really all I want to happen. I have all the channels. I shouldn't be watching a recap of games that have finished or are in intermission when there is a live game being played. If they get their act together then I would be satisfied.
