Losing Helm is a crucial blow as it effectively ruins our PK. Not that our Cup chances were good, but yes they've gotten worse. I'm really hoping we see some changes this summer.

What is with the inferiority complex around here? We sat in first place until we got hurt and just got lazy. Suddenly our chances weren't good to begin with? LOL then who has better chances? This league is very balanced and no one really stands out anymore.

Bruins, Pens, Blues, Preds

They all have better chances.

The Wings have been looking very sloppy for like 2 months now. That's not a good sign. Our PP has been dismal all year. That's not a good sign. Now Helm is gone. Great. Our PK is going to suffer and our bottom6 is going to really suffer.

I think given our form in the back half and the constant stream of, let's face it, bad luck has made us long shots. If we can beat Nashville, though, I think we've got just as good a chance as anyone else.

Why? The Blues don't look better than us when we actually apply ourselves. Same with the Preds and it took two total fluke bounces for them to barely win. Boston doesn't look like the same B's as last year and Pittsburgh looks good but I'm not worried about them. Their holes will get exposed once everyone calms down and stops fawning over their top two lines. Internet fans are all the same, they all have this attitude like their favorite teams sucks. No one stands out anymore in this league. It's all a shade of gray. If Boston can make it, if Philly can make it, if Chicago can win with Niemi in net, anyone has a chance. I don't know why we even bother thinking about teams with better chances, it means nothing once the second half of April starts.

Not to mention the Blues, Chicago, and the Pens all lost game 1. All favorites in their respective contests. A couple of bounces and we would have won game 1, Nashville is NOT. THAT. GOOD.

Stanley Cup hopes? Let take this one series at a time...

Helm isn't the be-all, end-all to bottom 6 players. We have other guys, namely Chris Conner, than can make up for his loss when it comes to speed and penalty killing.

So long as the Wings don't face a team that have two #1 defensive pairings (are there any?), either one of Datsyuk's or Zetterberg's line will be under-covered.

We were in first place to some extent because a lot of bounces went our way for a while. The Wings aren't as bad as the stretch to end the season would suggest - because then they would be a lottery team - but they aren't as good as that first place or home winning streak suggested either.
