Well, my huge post dissapeared, but here's what I was going to say.

The rockies got screwed by chance.

No, seriously.

Cook
Francis
Hawpe
Atkins
Barmes
Corpas
Ianetta

All of these guys, save for Francis (injury) and Corpas (was only up a short amount of time) were guys who had the skills, had the tools and had the track record of being at least average starting players, then all of them fell off a cliff in the prime of their career.

Perhaps most disturbing are Atkins and Hawpe, who were both playing very well before they essentially became "benchwarmer" material.

It's insane to think that the rockies organization knew or could tell that all of these players, essentially all of "Gen R" were going to play well for a while, then flame out spectacularly at 30, 39, 28 and even 26 and 27. Instead of reaping the fruits of the prized farm system the rockies so painfully constructed, they got the middle finger from fate and seemingly all of their guys went to ****.

I don't know why the GenRation failure happened, but that's truly the reason why the rockies now suck. Imagine them with a real catcher, right fielder, second baseman, closer, and a couple decent middle of the rotation starters.

The rockies are a lost cause right now.

But mack brown has put guys consistently in the league, and most of the "highly touted" guys that he bury's on the depth chart end up transferring and doing nothing.

Sure, but with QBs though he plays favorites and never the best players. IE: Garrett Gilbert 2 years ago and last year, bet he would have started Case McCoy no matter what this year. Also both LSU and Tennessee wanted Wood when he was transferring. He is only about 2 years removed from being the #3 QB from Rivals, and was Oklahoma's #1 choice before losing him to UT and settle with the Belldozer. Translation: Let me be optimistic about CU finally getting a good QB play

The CU season will still be fun. They have some decent talent on D and should compete in games.

Also, and I mean this seriously....

Derrick Webb will start in the NFL.

I'll stake everything I"ve got on it. He can play. He struggled at times last year as a soph, but when his reads get better he is going to be getting to the hole fast and hitting like a ton of bricks. Quote me.

Derrick Webb? That's out of the ballpark pick, I would have chosen Doug Rippy if I had to choose a LB that might play in the NFL. I'm expecting about 4~5 win this year, and in '13 we have a lot of players back, hoping for a bowl game by then.

No, truth is there were just a bunch of bums on UT's squad at QB. It sounds incredible, but it was true. They just don't have good QB'ing right now.

From what I'm hearing John Schrock is actually pretty good. He's a former walk on, but it sounds like he will compete hard for the starting position. I hope he gets it.

Yea heard Shrock doing well while Hirschman can't see the field with an injury and Stevie Dorman is doing nothing and wasting our scholarships.

Excited about Shane Dillon as well and I like our QB coach.

Webb started last year. He didn't show up all the time, but he was noticeable when got to the ball carrier. He's still coming around, and too bad the DL play was so bad last year, but he is a player. When he starts playing downhill, watch out.

Rippy is a good player, but I don't see the size I want in an NFL LB. (too light) He reminds me a little of Buster Davis a few years ago out of FSU (although not as dynamic). Buster was one of those guys who was everywhere on the field, but just didn't have the size to win in the trenches at the NFL level. I think Rippy will play in the league, but as a backup.

That said, he does have good speed and explosion for an inside guy. He's an intresting prospect, I suspect he'll be a 3-4 round gamble by someone hoping he can play as a smaller guy, which may or may not happen.

I remember Fowler vs. Maybin debate couple years ago and who will be better, sigh good times. Although I think Fowler can still be good and Maybin was solid for Padres last year.

I know he's fustrating, but Dex is a starting quality player who is still learning parts of the game.

One of these days he's going to stop switch hitting (hopefully soon) because he is much more effective from the right side.

The reason the Rockies suck in 2012 is because of the drafting in 2005 (aside from Tulo), 2006 (taking Greg Reynolds instead of Longoria, Kershaw, or Lincecum has set the franchise back years), 2007, and 2008. They've gotten nothing from those drafts except Tulo. The 2009 draft looks to have stopped the bleeding, but it's too early for Arenado and the others to make an impact this year. But the '05 through '08 drafts should be the core of the team in 2012 and they've only yielded 1 player. Not good for a team that is committed to drafting and developing rather than signing expensive free agents.

As for the players you listed:

Cook - Injuries and age have taken their toll on Cook, who has gone from an All-Star with a 3.98 era in 2008 to 4.16 in 2009 to 5.08 in 2010 to 6.03 era in 2011. You can't add 1 run to your earned run average each season and keep pitching in the big leagues.

Francis - He was a good starter until the shoulder injury. Has never been the same since.

Hawpe - Age 27 is when MLB players peak statistically. Hawpe had his best season at age 28 in 2007 and followed up with good seasons in '08 and '09. He was never elite and fell off a cliff at age 31.

Atkins - He peaked at age 26 in 2006 and had another good year in '07. Completely lost it and is out of organized baseball at age 32.

Barmes - Clint was never a real prospect and the Rockies never planned on building with him. He was 28 in 2007. Anything the Rox got out of Barmes was an added bonus.

Corpas - Relief pitching prospects are completely unreliable. Most good relievers are failed starters. And Corpas wasn't even a strikeout pitcher. The Rockies did well to get anything out of Corpas.

Iannetta - We'll see if trading Chris was a mistake or not. I think it will. He was the 6th best catcher in the NL last year based on WAR.

The Rockies weren't screwed by fate or bad luck, they were screwed by terrible drafting. There were no MLB ready prospects to take over for Hawpe and Atkins.

The Rockies keep getting screwed by Dan O'Dowd. How he still has a job is beyond me. 2 good seasons in 12 is unacceptable, but he continues to earn a paycheck. The Monforts should be ashamed.

Every 4 and 5 star blue chip in state stud begs UT to take them and they are usually done with recruiting in october while every other school is recruiting all the way to NSD. UT has to turn down 4 star kids. A team so stacked and loaded should be a top 3 team almost every year.

I don't think he's a good coach either. Like you said they pick whoever, but their offense is terrible.

So my friends who went to the Spring game at CU(spring game means nothing btw) said Wood looked good. Then again, which QB wouldn't look good against our ****** defense?

Also, we got a 4* QB today as well. Very excited to have him, 6'4 215
