I'm looking to get back into indoor roller hockey. I haven't played in 15 years. I heard some good things about the Silvercreek Sportsplex. Anyone part of that or have any experience there?
I just put on my Tour Red Max skates that I bought 5 years ago and boy are they stiff.
Played a few years there. Its a nice facility, Dave Maley has done a great job with it. The Adult league there is descent to an extent, but I will admit it is filled with Ringers who play @ lower levels where they do not belong. I'm not much of a roller hockey player, but if you want to get back into it its not a bad place for the times, availability and cost (though as of late I herd its getting worse...).

I'll Stick to ice. There is a difference.
They've done a fairly decent job in weeding out the ringers in the last few seasons.

Well thats good. Not that I personally cared much (I enjoy good competition), but I know allot of the guys that play in the AIHL pacific division that were playing/subbing in D6 which made me LULZ!!! Allot of the teams would complain, so it figures they would finally give in and clean up the ringers playing way outside there skill set.

Its roughly $150-$250 per season now depending on team size for 10 games.. Depending on your team size in ice, its actually a bit cheaper

if your ice team is packed to like 15-18 players deep it might = out but it will be a tad bit cheaper (not much to make me think twice) to play roller. Roller IMHO can't match the control or game speed that can be had on Ice (granted all 5 guys on the ice know how to move the puck) and is why I really never got down with it like the rest of my friends who play both. I also find that Roller Hockey ****** up your Ice Hockey game (stride, puck handling, shooting) so I def am not kosher with that. I also hate how the roller puck weights nothing, i feel like I cant feel the puck on my stick when dribbling it dragging it outside my body. Guess its just preference though.

You are gonna have to show me how to dribble a puck one of these days
I definitely agree though I enjoy ice much more than roller. The only thing awesome about roller is that my slap shot is insane with a roller puck

I guess dribble is ol' school lingo when it came to dangling the puck quickly on your side (from the shooting position). Like Sean Skinner (instructor) ol' school Turcotte Stick Handling School Old...That how he referred to it as so I guess it kinda of stuck with me over the years. But yeah kinda of sounds stupid...were not playing basketball. He would always say, DRIBBLE DRIBBLE DRIBBLE, FAKE! Heres a video of him with Ovi. Guy use to coach me when I was young. I use to be Clement Clement Hands of Cement until He worked some dangles into my game.
I find my shot to be far harder on Ice then in roller. Granted i can def put more velocity on my shot with a roller puck, its far harder to control exactly where I'm placing my shot as there is very little weight to a roller puck, so the feel just isn't there. When I clap a roller puck it tends to catch a draft of air, so its a slow riser to god knows where its going. Plus the roller puck sometimes goes off axis when you shoot it meaning it doesn't quite tumble like a knuckler but will not stay flat (kinda of tilts causing the puck to do all kinds of funny things in the air). It does however make for a great guessing game for the guy in the paint and pillows. I have more of a Heavy Shot when it comes to Ice which also doesn't translate in roller because the puck has little to no weight in comparison to a 6oz ice puck. Though I will admit the IDS pucks feel the best if you play roller, and I tend to enjoy the game a tad more if one is being used for the game (they feel the best and tend to stay true when passing and shooting it).
Oh and my private lessons fee's are $50 for 1/2 hour or $80 for a full hour. Get @ me if you want some dangleducation.

Good tool for you guys that are looking to improve your puck handling skills is the 6oz Goalie Practice Pucks. There not only for goalies, but force you really learn to feel the puck when dangling it. Like to work on my stationary bubble stick-handling as well as shuffle stride/c-cut strides while dribbling it @ my side from the shooting position. Also have played some 3 on 3, 1/2 ice (w/coach outlet passer, no clear for quick transition) with a white puck, and it makes for a real interesting game.
I plan on making it out to watch a game this Sunday but was hoping that some folks here might help me get an idea... What kind of skills do I need to have down for the EEEEE skill level?
I attend the beginner hockey class in SJ on Saturday, go to drop in at Fremont on Fridays and have been trying to go to Gretzky whenever/where ever I can. I'm just wondering what I should really be working on if I hope to play at that level soon. I'm just considering it because it would be nice to be matched up with some players of similar skill.

They keep adding teams to the adult leagues and the fees keep going up. They need to add some sheets(heard a rumor that its in the process now) but its getting ludicrous with all the late games.

Where would they add more sheets? Isn't Sharks Ice already the biggest ice rink in North America? I can't imagine how much bigger it could get.
-Small arena rink built over where the track is.
-Extension rink, built on the side or back parking lot
-Parking garage across the street from the front entrance(where all those rental cars are parked), and building a bridge over the street for easier accessibility
These are just thoughts I've heard from some people. I've also heard they may only add one more rink. Seems like a parking garage is given though if they add at least 1 more.
I'm no rink expert but, off the top of my head, I'm sure the aptly-named 8 Rinks facility in the Vancouver area is probably bigger.
Probably.
The Burnaby 8 Rink Facility is quite a facility. Played/practiced in this rink numerous times during my tenure in the BCHL. You can get lost in that building, as well as jogging around it for pre-game warm up sweat.

Yeah I heard they are trying to get a mini 2-3k seat arena build for tournaments.

Pre 2009 financial meltdown, the strong rumor floating around was that the SJ Giants stadium was going to be knocked down and rebuilt somewhere downtown, to be replaced by a 2-5k seat ice hockey stadium, ostensibly to be the Sharks practice facility and overflow, etc. That was the rumor then, but that's since died.
The latest rumor floating around is that they would take over the city land used by the gun club next door, and we'd get two more sheets in that direction. I wouldn't hold my breath over that one, for so many reasons.
I'm shocked they haven't significantly raised prices, given the supply/demand imbalance. Sucked to play some playoff games at 11:30 this past season.
