Oil kings are +21 in their 8 playoff games having outscored their opponents 33 - 12. Looks like their carrying over that regular season league leading goal differential of +117

I always joked about the Oil Kings keeping rounds short and sweet. Now, It's actually happening.

But yeah, the $120 is already worth it with 4 games. and another guaranteed 2 more coming.

woot

I figured that the Oil Kings were on the cusp of being a GOOD junior team near the tail end of last year but I never pictured such sheer and utter dominance.

Please and thanks.

I don't think they've played anyone really good yet. So far its been men against boys. This is where it gets tough. Moose Jaw is very good and the teams in the western final, likely Tri-City and Portland, are very good. Bartshi will be a handful if Portland makes it out of the west.

This will be a tough series for the OK. Hoping Shaw televises this one.

They are big, tough, and mean. They have several dmen who are 6'4"-6'5" and 200+lbs including the toughest and most feared player in the WHL, Dylan McIlwrath.

They are very physical down low and in front of their net, keeping teams to the outside. The opposition is often visibly afraid of McIlwrath. They are strong defensively and play a similar tight checking game ala Kootenay, except they are even more physical and intimidating.

I know -- that's what I said on the last page. Their real competition starts next Friday but there's no denying that they're ridiculously dominant. The numbers don't lie.

They will run over Moose Jaw too.

The real issue will be with whoever comes out of the west.

Tri-City/Edmonton for the WHL title was preordained after that OT game in January. Best junior game of the year.

I was at that game. It was the most competitive game I saw all year. Would be a helluva series. We have to get by Moose Jaw first. It seems perhaps Tri City has their hands full with Spokane and Portland will have something to say about it as well. Hopefully they all beat the crap out of each other and whoever comes out of that side has nothing left for the Oil Kings.

Probably, but Brandon tried that too, didn't they?

I am happy for the Oil Kings, but sucks your team lost Joe. Best of luck with them next year. I always liked the Wheaties.

Brandon is not Moose Jaw. Brandon is tough but Moose Jaw is a throw back to tougher days in the WHL

My team has made the playoffs for 14 straight years now. We are a small market team that excels in a time of big market success. We exploit Manitoba like no other WHL team for talent. Whenever anyone says a small market team cannot excel in the CHL just point them at Brandon

You just summed up why I like them

And it'll be an interesting series for sure. Moose Jaw's toughness against Oil Kings' extreme depth. Looking forward to it.

Methinks Laxdal will begin to dress Wilson in an effort to get one of their bigger bodies into the lineup. Ewanyk and Moroz will likely have to give even more in this series. That's what's great about the Oil Kings - they do have a good amount of big guys, and they usually play the body too.

The Oil Kings dont want to get sucked into the Warrior's game imo. Moose Jaw is much better at it. I would think if the Warriors get too out of hand we kill them with the pp.

It's not about getting sucked into their style of play, it's just about not being a pushover. Throwing Klarc in for even 5 minutes a night isn't going to hinder their offense at all, but a few good checks from him (and Rachinski + Peddle) will show them that we're not simply a team of offence, that we do have quality grit guys.

At the very least, it would make for a more entertaining series to watch (like any Oil Kings v Rebels game)

This is the type of series I wish I was playing hockey in. Physical as ****, uber competitive. Things getting chippy and occasionally crossing the line. Hopefully skill and pure perseverence overcomes brutality.

I have 0 worries that the Oil Kings get by Moose Jaw. Oil Kings most balanced team that the Chl has seen in years.

in my opinion, only if Wruck isn't ready to play. If Wruck is OK (upper body injury) then he stays in and no change to line up. Seriously, at this point, who would you take out of the line up for Klarc Wilson?

I can almost guarantee that EDM / MJ is going to be the series on Shaw. Two excellent arenas to broadcast from plus the fact that both clubs are in Canada. No brainer.

Also, someone mentioned the Saint John Sea Dogs earlier in this thread. SNB and EDM are the only two unbeaten teams left in the CHL playoffs. You want to talk about a team that is dominating right now... I did a quick comparison.

Shaw isairing the series. I read it on Twitter shortly after the Oil Kings - Warriors series was confirmed.

I sort of want to dispute this a little, I would honestly say Tri-City probably exploits Manitoba better than anybody, especially considering Kennewick is over 2000 km away from Manitoba. They constantly mine the best talent from the Winnipeg area in particular.

If I were the Wheat Kings, I would probably try to steal/hire that scout they have doing their work for them there because he is quite literally the reason Tri-City has been a consistent high-end force these past 5 years. Shinnimin, Hughesman are Winnipeg guys, and Lazo, Macek, Pickard were all Winnipeg guys. Even solid D like Tyler Schmidt and Brett Plouffe from past years. These players are sitting right under McCrimmon's nose, he should be grabbing at least some of them. Brandon would be a force year in year out if they could do that. Granted, guys like Robak, Stone, Ferland and Glennie are good examples of Manitoba boys, but they could have been even stronger if they just went to that well a little more.
