The Romans should have hired Holmgren.

I was completely on the 'slag Holmgren' bandwagon this off-season. The litany of bad moves was often cited. And the sign-Bryz-trade-Richards-trade-Carter was one of the oddest days I have spent as a Flyers fan. He got real quality for Richards and fleeced Columbus, no doubt about it.

But, yeah, Shelley.

Well, Bryzgalov's contract remains horrendous. There is that, haha. Also this Pronger 35+ thingy we have going on.

Since taking over the worst team in the NHL from Clarke -- who I loved -- Homer has made one major overhaul that turned into a one year rebuilding project and then later, after a strong bid for a Cup that fell one game and one OT short of a win-able Championship, he tweaked that team with a major tweak that revamped the young core for the future... that was again a one year project... one that has the remainder of this PostSeason to prove just have quickly it might pay off.

I am elated with my 2012 PlayOff Avatar choice.

As long as Bryz stays at this level, I'm fine with the cap hit. The length will always be regrettable, but meh...can't go back now. Us as fans on a message board couldn't have done anything about it anyway. It seems like for each thing he does stupidly in a season, he cancels it out with one or two brilliant things. If we have a couple rough contracts to a future hall-of-famer and an all-star goalie (for once in my lifetime), I can live with that...as long as someone like Lukas Krajicek still isn't being paid to play defense for us.

IIRC a great deal of the things Homer was panned on fell under the old 'but it could have gone bad, even if it didn't; Homer was lucky' label.

I feel like the Penguins had Carter and Richards on a dog leash...

He wiped away all that frustration in two trades. The kids aren't scared.

I LOVE this Philly team... your top 9 is everything you want... tough, 2-way players with all kinds of grit, upside, character.

With JVR and Mez back, Jesus... watch out.

Why wouldn't you want JVR back? I mean, as long as they kept him on the 4th line until he gets used to the playoff speed...

Better him than Rinaldo who is just going to to take reputation penalties in the post season.

The only trade I'd like back is Versteeg honestly. Outside of that this team is rolling in the right gear. I wish JVR was healthy all season then this JVR trade talk could vanish. The more I watch these individual games the more I come to realize is we need someone like Suter more and more. Grossman, Coburn, Timonen, Meszaros is a nice top four but we still need either a healthy Pronger or an impact defender.

Steeg is still a bum. Worsteeg as I like to call him. His 3 mil cap hit means no Jagr or maybe no Schenn.

Bryzgalov's contract is tremendous, if they just win 1 CUP. well worth every dollar.

Silly man. Does your statement carry further than the playoffs? If so, I'd change your attitude towards JVR because the guy tried his heart out even through injury. Barely anyone noticed him though.

Dont worry, the fanbase will find someone to hate and he'll instantly have a new favorite player...

Holmgren is the best GM in the league. He constantly "re-tools" this team and they never seem to miss a beat and they keep on getting better.

Flyers have the deepest team in the league, simple as that. No one comes close to the depth at offence, thats for sure.

Yeah, Larry, Homer's "brilliance" is why this board lost a slew of posters.

Stay bitter, old man.

There's a reason I post on the Devils board probably 5 times as much as I do here. Mainly because when that slew of posters bailed, the average IQ around here dropped by about 30 points.

I'm okay if JVR doesn't come back. I'm worried he might mess things up. And I'm pretty satisfied with Rinaldo's tough play thus far. I especially like the fact that he's out there while Malkin's line is. When Rinaldo took down Malkin yesterday, I was PRAYING for Malkin to slash him in retaliation. It's clear that Malkin does not want to get too scrappy for fear of unleashing the animal.

Homer has his real strong suits and real weak ones. He does know scouting extremely well. The Flyers as a whole have been excellent grooming forwards for the NHL. He also has his bad spots where he doesn't quite know all the language of the CBA. His assistant GM is also to help him out in that regard though, that's one of his primary jobs along with contracts and arbitration. Overall Homer has done a great job just like much of the other GM's in this league. There are some though that expect him to be perfect in every aspect and it's just not fair to him or any other GM(unless you Holland).

Overall he has done a good job with the team, but I won't consider him an elite GM until the team he built wins Lord's Stanley Cup just like I do with most GM's(one's that actually built the teams and not inherited them)

The trades he made were ballsy, but with his scouting back round and hockey knowledge they were very calculated measures. He knew exactly what he was getting.
