I can't believe everyone is ignoring Brendan Gaunce , we need a big power center and he's the biggest kid in the draft and he will be available when we pick . You guys really want a puny band aid euro player over a big tough Canadian boy ?
I agree they could use a 3rd. line center with size as well just in case Colborne busts.

He's a scout's dream in the way he prepares himself and plays an unselfish game, making smart decisions with the puck. With his bloodlines, he certainly understands what it will take to make it at the next level.
He's right. Kessel has never had the work ethic or intelligence to improve. He was the last to arrive and first to leave in Boston. He'd rather quit than put in extra effort and that's why he wanted out of Boston. Leafs will never win with him and better to trade him now when his value is high
I can agree that the Kessel trade was terrible! Burke got ******* fleeced! The problem with trading him is that he does not have a high value to any other team. I think he might get a 1st and that is about it. Others teams see him as a soft selfish player that is a defensive liability. Even if the Leafs can get a high 1st at the draft then dump him. He is not a franchise player or part of the future of the Leafs.
His trade is a real grey area... Burke being the Team USA GM, a Boston native.... I don't know, Was that deal really made to help the Leafs or Boston?
Let the kessel project die is the right move. If edmonton is stupid enough to trade nail for phil, id jump on that.
And i believe burke is there to make other teams better, not toronto

Would love to see this - Burke deals the pick to get another high 1st & another 2nd.
Takes Gaunce & another asset. Oh, the intrigue, blah blah blah

Can we stop throwing kadri in every damn proposal please . The guys a stud and maybe if we let him have a good amount of NHL time with actual top 6 minutes he can break out. He would of broke out this season if we played him last season. Anyway that's off topic. I'd only move it if we're moving up to get galchenyuk
^ I agree on both accounts. This team needs to draft and develop its own all-stars. And Kadri is going to be a great player in the NHL, he's proven himself in the AHL. Not sure why so many fans have gven up on this kid. Some people seem to put down all our prospects and do nothing but praise other teams prospects. I don't get it.
I know that Toronto's odds for winning the lottery were low to begin with, but now that we know for sure we will be drafting #5 will Burke deal the pick? If there is no chance to get Yakupov, Grigorenko or Galchenyuk (which will most likely happen) as they will be drafted 1,2,3... Does Burke try to move the pick? I don't see him drafting Forsberg whatsoever.
Any chance that he packages the pick with other assets to try to land that established big #1 C or a player like Nash?
If he does package the pick, who would you package it with and for who? What do you guys think!
Without a doubt Burke is going to be a popular man leading up to the draft. Everyone knows he'll be desperate to make a significant move, and all of the GM's will be asking for that pick to make a deal happen. It's really the only chip he has to add a player of significance. Nash is the first guy we thought could be coming the other way, but now that Luongo is likely on the market I can see the pick being required if the Leafs want him. As more teams are eliminated and fingers start to get pointed, there will probably be more players available and you can bet our pick will be traded to get one of them. All these guys talking about who to draft at number 5 are wasting their breath. Deep down we all know that pick is going to be gone, it's just the way things have always worked in Toronto and always will. If we're lucky we'll get Vancouver's first round pick back in the deal and we still get somebody.
He dealt the 2nd overall and the 9th overall picks on year 1 of the re-build, it would not surprise me one bit if he deals the 5th overall pick on his 4th and final year on this contract here and when the pressure to succeed has never been greater with many stars on the market as well. At the time when everyone watching and thinking show me something or we could start asking teams permission to speak with their assistant gm's in next April, I say it's 60-40 he trades it and I don't like it one bit. After all if he fails again he will move on and it's the fans who have to continue to suffer more mediocrity.

Kadri may represent Burke's most reasonable chip when it comes to off-season trading.
Let's face it - Gardiner isn't going to get moved, Schenn won't attract much interest, he believes in Kulemin and MacArthur, and Phaneuf/Kessel are untouchable.
I'd be very surprised if Kadri was still a Maple Leaf come October. Wilson didn't like his style of play, and Naz was the first person I thought of when Carlyle came over - I don't think there was anyone in the organization that standed to benefit more from the coaching change than him. But upon further inspection, I don't think Kadri fits into RC's style.
On topic - the pick doesn't get moved unless it guarantees us a franchise center or a franchise goalie. I don't think Burke is looking to move up in the draft either.
I think no way he does, simply because the media will roast him. No matter who he brings in.
The 2013 1st round pick though, if say Nash was involved, that's a different story.
too many good teams exiting the playoffs early this year .....burke is gonna be in tough to do anything with his limited time left in toronto.....funny thing is why is nonis doing all the talking in the media .......hmmmmm

Our pick being required for Luongo? Are you ****ing serious?
If the pick is used to get Rick Nash or a 1C with some star power, I'm for it.
I would be happy with:
1st++ for Getzlaf
1st+Kadri+Connolly for Nash (i.e. we give really good pick, good prospect and cap dump/okayish player for guy who has to be dealt and has very short leash)
1st+++ for E. Staal
1st for Stastny (I'd be okay with tossing a 2nd + Connolly to return a roster player and dump salary)
I'm sure Burke would want some yout included, or maybe their pick at 26.
I don't see it being a one player trade though, I'd expect there'd be several asseets exchanged.
It will be a bunch of lower tier prospects.
Sparks, Greenop, Broll +4th
Something like that, although I'm not sure if those are low enough. They get a bunch of dice rolls. There might be some dice rolls coming back our way too. Depends.

That's incorrect. At the time of the Kessel deal, the Toronto 1st in both years wasn't determined. It wasn't a 2nd overall and it wasn't a 22nd overall, it was undetermined.
What history can inform us of, is Burke's penchant to attempt and at times succeed in trading UP, or acquire another high 1st round pick.
If you're going to go by actual Burke Draft Day history, your money will be better bet elsewhere than him frivolously trading it.
Now if Jordan Staal is coming back, then alrighty...draft schmaft, BB.
