If Ben Bishop can get a chance in the NHL, I wouldn't be surprised if Desjardins get a shot as a backup somewhere. He is still young and has put up very impressive numbers in the AHL.
He didn't get enough games in the NHL for Tampa to keep his rights and now he doesn't get enough games in the NHL for Avs to keep his rights.

Is it me who is a bit touchy or isn't keeping Elliott up here as the 8th D a giant FU to Lake Erie Monsters, when they are desperately fighting for a playoff spot and have been using several players on ATO's on defense.
I didn't think Elliott and Barrie were eligible to go back Lake Erie this season.
Edit: nevermind, I see they actually were added to the clear day roster.

I think it's mostly the injuries (O'Byrne and EJ) that prevented one of them from being sent down. We haven't really had 8 healthy D for all that many games.
Perhaps Avs feel it's good for them to practice and socialize with the rest of the team. But it's not ideal that Elliott hasn't played a single game in almost a month now and Barrie played four games in the last month and a half.

Only other thing I could figure is the team didn't want to waste transactions by reassigning them, especially since Connolly was called up and reassigned already. Both would probably be recalled should the team make the playoffs, though if they were reassigned I don't know if they could be called up because of the transaction limit. However it's also possible I misunderstood the rule and it doesn't apply to NHL playoff rosters.
I know Gaunce has very impressive numbers for a defense first guy. But has anyone actually seen him play this year? Is he playing against top lines? Stats wise he looks like a lock to make the team next year, but you can't judge by stats.
They better resign Desjardins, who's now a UFA come July 1st.
And there's a reason he's a UFA. He didn't play enough games. Because he spent most of the season injured. I'd rather the Monsters invest time and money developing one of our umpteen-dozen prospects than a guy who's slowly becoming the Pascal Leclaire of the AHL.

Hard to say w/o seeing the games. The AHL doesn't track ice time, which would at least give us some indication.
Honestly though, I can't imagine he's not The Guy for such a role, since...who the hell else on that roster would be? I think Liffiton and Holos were the top shutdown pairing last year, but Liffiton doesn't even appear to be on the active roster for whatever reason.

The games i saw earlier in the year Gaunce and Barrie were the top pair and they played quite it bit.

Gaunce is getting top-pairing minutes. Liffiton is injured, which is why he hasn't been playing, Mauldin has been wearing the 'C.'
Pretty simple scenario for the Monsters tomorrow night...win and you're in!
