i dont know why thats your dream, shouldn't you want gally or grig? big potential #1 center
A top notch left d would be amazing for us too, I think Murray/Phaneuf could be a great pairing. We're always one of the worst defensive teams, we could really use a reliable 2-way guy who's really smart and mobile in his own end. The way I see it, the Leafs are fairly set in terms of wingers (Kessel, Lupul, Kulemin, Mac, Kadri, Frattin, etc.), but are in need of high end talent everywhere else (C, D, G). Plus, I'm more about BPA than team needs anyways in the draft, I like both Grigorenko and Galchenyuk, but both scare me a bit (Grigorenko's motor is somewhat questionable, Galchenyuk is a bit of a wild card having barely played this year), while Murray should very likely be a good top 4 dman, with top pairing upside.
Is going to drop out of top 5? Something tells me he's going to be this year's Fowler. Which mind you is not a bad thing for the team that picks him up.
I don't think Montreal is going to draft him, they need some size up front, so does the Leafs who have tons of D at the back, Columbus needs a marketable player if Nash is to get traded or will probably get a young D in return.
It isn't impossible. I think any one of Grigorenko, Galchenyuk, Murray, and Forsberg has the opportunity to fall out of the top 5. We always say ever year, "this is my gm's kind of guy, no way he falls" and then he does...I don't think this year will be any different.
Definitely not out of the question, happened to another "safe" player in Couturier last year. It would be so annoying if he fell to the Ducks too... Fowler-Murray, both picked out of the top 5. Jesus.
In my opinion, I don't think he drops out of top 5.
Top 5 will probably be (not necessarily in order..)
Yakupov
Grigorenko
Galchenyuk
Murray
Forsberg
After those 5, there is a considerable drop in talent.
Dumba, Trouba, Collberg, Faksa, Reinhart, Rielly, Ceci is a considerable drop in talent? News to me.

I would list Murray as the least likely to fall in my mind out of Forsberg, Galchenyuk, Grigorenko, and Murray. That said, if Columbus drafts a forward, he could slip simply by the Islanders going with a different defenseman.

Maybe I have been drinking too much
Only thing with the Leafs, Burke constantly says "We'll take the best available player." If Murray is there, he'll be the best available player. With Ryan Murray on the Leafs Roster, they'll be a little more willing to move a (at times struggling) Luke Schenn for a top six forward. Pulling this out my bum but theres been so many Schenn rumors and I'd say this is the only way any of those Schenn rumors make sense.
I can definitely see that happening if Galchenyuk is off the board and I would kill to have him as he would fill a huge need on our back-end as a reliable, steady and perfect partner for Phaneuf.
So much great options for us in this draft and will be a solid draft as long as we come out with any one of top 5 rated draftees.
I really think the Oilers would have drafted him at second overall if they hadn't won the lottery. But now, with Yakupov, it's another story.
You're probably right. I do think Murray is the second best player available, but with centers available, and team need of Columbus, Montreal and Toronto being centers more than defensemen, I think it is possible, especially if the Isles like Dumba or Reilly better than him.
It's certainly not impossible, people often seem to forget that teams rankings are often completely different from the general consensus. What's to say a team like the Islanders don't have Mathew Dumba ranked ahead of Murray?
It would be very surprising to see him fall out of the top 5 but far crazier things have happened.
Could possibly happen but I have high doubts that NYI would let him pass by.
Any normal organization that is lacking a high-end defensive prospect would never pass on Murray - this is the Islanders.
I'm hoping Garth doesn't try and get cute on draft day and trade down for Dumba if Murray is still available at 4, only to acquire more picks. Like we need any more draft picks.
In my opinion, I don't think he drops out of top 5.

Don't you think that's a bit narrow minded in a way?
Until he got injured Matt Dumba was an absolute defensive stud. Thats a great pick for whoever lands him. Subban is a pretty legit tender at this point. Any team looking for grit and some skill could go after Jarrod Maidens. Up until a few months ago Matia Marcantuoni was sitting around 12th-20th, now he's upper mid second round.
Every year people talk about these 'considerable dropoffs' but every year picks at the mid and end of round 1 become amazing players that were undervalued. Im sure this year will be no different.
And if Edmonton keeps their first overall, I wouldnt be terribly shocked if Murray went first considering the Oilers are going to star losing all their games 8-6 if they keep up their draft patterns.
