I also fail to see how this glass/stanchion that can withstand two grown 200+ pound men skating at around 10 mph and colliding into said glass/stanchion is able to be knocked out by some people slapping their hands on it repeatedly. It was an unfortunate turn of events and if anyone is to be blamed(and nobody should be) it would be on the staff who puts these panes of glass into place.

That's a beauty of a hipcheck there BTW.
I've seen people slam those glass pains with all of their might, trying to distract players or get their attention during warm ups. No doubt, some of these folks could easily help dislodge these panes. I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often, to be honest.
Someone posted this vid in the PGT. Check out how wobbly the glass is during this scrum in the second period. It's not from banging one pane, it's more of a ripple effect from cumulative pushing and leaning back and forth along a whole wall of the glass. Enough force and one pane pops out of its frame.

2nd period scrum behind Caps net
The boards are built to be that flexible. You're also comparing the moving at the top of the glass saying it was dangerous.. that's equivalent to seeing the top of a tree sway 20 ft in either direction and saying that the trunk is ready to break in half.
EVERYONE bangs on the glass. EVERYONE. People who say they won't/don't haven't sat in the front row of Game 1 of an overtime Stanley Cup Finals game. It's just an unfortunate accident and not any one persons fault, fan or employee.

Please don't speak for everyone. I've never banged on the glass at a hockey game, ever, and I never will. I jump up and down, scream, dance, celebrate, hug people, but I wouldn't bang on the glass any more than I'd run out onto the ice.
And as several people have pointed out, this wasn't a few fans banging their fists, it was several dozen people pounding on several panels. The pane in question started to fall and people kept on pushing! How stupid is that?
I'll admit I'm a glass banger, along with thousands of other fans who sit in the front row of professional hockey games around the world. I do it to get the attention of opposing players and flip them off. I also do it when extremely excited. The glass is very very strong. It's ridiculous how a panel fell after the game was over and some people are freaking out like it's some kind of problem.
I'm a glass banger... the glass is made to take it from both sides... the failure arises with those fans must have felt it loosen and I don't care how excited you were, you have to realize it was very loose and wobbly and they kept banging and if you watch the video you see this huge fat guy wobble down the aisle and give the final push to break it... shoddy job by the ice crew overall last night... terrible...
Actually i'm not, but thats because of circumstance and not from some point of principle. If i were to ever sit in the front row i'd be banging that thing like nobody's business. God knows how much damage we used to do to the exposed duct work of the air vents in the last row of the old barn. gonna blame someone, blame the bull gang.
In the Oilers arena if you bang on the glass you are politely asked to stop. Its rare to have excessive glass banging in Rexall place, at least, in the most recent years. From my understanding there are a few other arenas who implement this as well.
The following message has been typed by Dad for Ryder (4) after watching TSN's coverage of what happened to Krejci:
Ryder: Type "What is your phone number"
Me: Why? "So I can talk to him and see if he is ok"
Me: OK, well, what did you want to tell him?
Ryder: I want to tell him that I play hockey and beat dad every day. I beat grandpa one time, and grandma two times, and can beat mom.
Me: That's why you want to talk to David Krejci?
Ryder: Ya, and I want to ask him how did the glass fall down. I want to find out if he is OK.
He wants to send him a card...
Two things...
1. My kid is pretty sweet.
2. Despite my efforts, my kid's second favorite team is the Bruins... He loves when they beat the Penguins... When they beat the Leafs (always) he tells me at bed time that the Leafs need more Bruins players... I always tell him he is right, but that we need to find different ways of acquiring them (lol Kessel).
Anyways - Go Bruins Go!
Plus he loves them because Grandma got to ride the zamboni recently at a Bruins game... she got a Thomas jersey that game too...

Glad somebody said it. I'd be doing the same exact thing.
This isn't a tennis match, it's a hockey game. You bet I'd be slamming on the glass if I was there, especially after the Bruins just won a playoff game in OT.
If people could tell that the glass was clearly loose and they continued to slam on it anyways, that's different. Even still, the glass and support beams should be made to handle that in the first place.

I have sat at or near the glass before. I can tell you if you bang on the glass you will quickly be told you need to stop by either and usher or security
and as I recall they rush securiy/ushers to the end of the row at the end of the game, so normally they won't allow it then either.

R we really going to place all blame
with fans here? They got jacked & responded. Not nearly as bad as football goalpost thrashers.
Well, I'm really happy that he's feeling well enough to play.
Despite the Sens game tonight, I'm wearing my Krejčí jersey today, in solidarity with one of my favourite players in the league and victims of freak glass accidents everywhere.
