What instruments you use doesn't determine whether something is music or not. Yes, because of the instruments used there isn't as much of a live component to the music, but anyone who isn't an idiot realizes that has nothing to do with the quality of the music itself.

Skrillex and the rest of the brostep genre is indeed a horrible bastardization of dubstep, which has some nice tunes even if I am not a huge fan of it. But why blame the artists for making stuff that the caters to the lowest common denominator, this goes for any genre. It's the masses that gobble up that crap and these artists are just catering to that demand and making nice coin doing so. Nothing wrong with that. Blame the idiots for not asking for something better and settling for generic pap. Blame the marketers who make these people think that it's what they want.

I decided to give Skrillex a few more listens. I liked Kyoto and Bangarang. In those songs the vocals and beats weren't being cut off abruptly like a teen who doesn't know how to handle the brakes. They actually made some logical sense as a song. Everything else on that EP...or LP whatever it was was pretty terrible.

And I've been hearing Bass Head by Bassnectar at parties all the time without noticing it was a dubstep song. Actually feel kinda retarded about that one.

So...I guess I'd have to say not all of it's horrible. Bro step for the most part? Absolutely. I'm kinda dreading what I'm going to hear at EDC. But some of it is okay. Just...not my slice of pie.
