Downie isn't getting traded, he's a fan favorite in Colorado.
As for a 1st to COL, might just have to wait until 2013 to pick in the 1st round, look at Varlamov as your 2012 1st round pick.
EDIT: But Downie is the only player on the Avs that I would trade a 1st round pick for.
Really? You wouldn't trade a first for Duchene? Landeskog?

What you are talking about is a sign and trade, which by extension means you are proposing Stastny for Suter straight up, which is a killer deal for COL. I realize that NAS may not sign Suter, but I imagine that they'll go right to July 1 and beyond to try to sign him.
Stastny
Rights to one of Millan, Silas, or Rutkowski
for
11th overall
One of Carlson or Alzner
Is IMO very fair. You can give us a cap dump if you want as well.
I would probably try to do something like..
Stastny + Jones (rights)
11th over all + Carlson + Semin's (rights)
Trading Stastny and Jones together almost guaranties Jones resigns they are very close. Jones will be a couple million cheaper than Semin and is a 20 goal guy.
Trading Stastny is a huge risk for us. He returned to form the last half of this season and is a extremely good two way center. Duchene struggled so we are not sure if he is ready to be the No. 1 center yet.

I'm not a huge fan of the sabres aquiring statsny, as I think sabres fans overvalue him to the level of a Kopitar or Getzlaf, but I guess I'll take a swing at this......
To COL:
C - Derek Roy
2012 Nashville 1st Round Draft Pick
To Buff:
C - Paul Statsny
Mid Forward Prospect
Reasons:
Buffalo is no longer compatible with Roy, he seemingly has a problem with lindy ruff, and frankly could use a change of scenery.
This deal opens up a bit more space for colorado to sign their FAs, but still have extra cap space to make sure that they can give a large payday to Oreilly and Duchenne without hamstringing their team. This also allows them to move out statsny and fully pass the reigns on to duchenne, and if he struggles this year, they still have a very compitant plan B to step in to take some pressure off of duchenne, which lessens the gamble that they take in trading statsny. Roy is also in the final year of his contract, so if colorado feels that after this year they no longer need Roy, as Duchenne has proved himself ready, then the Avs can let Roy walk, and not be stuck paying for a top 6 center they no longer need (or even trade him at the deadline if they want). The sabres also give the NSH 1st which allows Colorado to pick a player in the first round. As for the prospect, I included it because the sabres need to restock their offensive prospect pool, as many of them have moved up (Ennis, Foligno, Tropp etc) or were traded (byron, kassian) So they are left basically with Adam and Armia right now.....and more defensemen then they know what to do with....(seriously).

Good god. Carlson is a 22 year old dman playing 22 minutes a night in all situations and scored 32 points. I don't know if Colorado would move him for Statsny straight up, let alone with the #11 pick.
Ill be short and just say that no GM in their right mind would give up much more then that for Statsny.
Then it's a good thing he isn't on the trade block.

Your proposed deal weakens the Avs both in the short and long term. No reason to make a trade if you only make your team worse.
Exactly, Avs get smaller, older and less talented down the middle and they give up a mid level forward prospect (which we lack as it is) for pick that could be around 25th spot and on top of all that Roy is signed for only one more year. Sherman would need to be stupid to do this deal.

Then let me say thank god, losing Staz would suck since he's our best faceoff man, best playmaker and was one of our three best players down the stretch (alongside Varly and Landeskog), losing Staz to make our team worse would suck even more. At least the Enstrom for Staz proposals make us better defensively and gives EJ a good partner. Moving Staz for a lesser Center would be absolutely atrocious. If that's the best offer we'll get then thankfully that means we'll have all of our Centers on the roster next season.
Stastny for the rights of Suter with the confirmation of him signing here.
If Suter would actually agree to sign here then wouldn't you wait until the offseason to sign him now that you know he'd be interested in coming here??
Make it Luke Schenn & Kadri + 5th & 35th over all and sure we will give you Duchene. Maybe even throw in a prospect. Then watch us flip some sort of package for Brayden Schenn.
