Something that seems to be lacking with a number of fans.
Problem with Leaf Nation is there is a ton of us who have gone thru the rebuild so to speak in the 80's and don't care for another 5 years of non playoff hockey.
A proper re-tool will get this team to the playoffs.

I don't recall a rebuild in the 80's, they seemed content being bad.
IMO, competent Goaltending and they sneak in the Playoffs this year. I certainly expect it next year.

Richard Peddie as MLSE spokesman claimed ownership expected the playoffs 2 years ago already based on what Burke told the board of directors.
Quote:
Richard Peddie: "We (MLSE) expect the Leafs to make the playoffs this season."
June 14, 2010
.. The channel was quickly changed, and Peddie made clear that the Leafs expect to make the playoffs next season.
Brian said last year he felt we were capable of doing it, but this season? We expect it, Peddie said. The tearing down is done. Now were building up with youth and adding some players in free agency this summer.

What choice would I have?Im not fooling anyone anymore.Philly is so far ahead of us with Schenn,Couturier and Giroux it isnt even funny! If we retool,we still wont win it.
Target Ryan Suter and Zach Parise, quickly realize we can't compete with other top teams in the NHL in terms of both money and term, then settle on a Paul Gaustad for entirely too much money.
Trading all our picks for Rick Nash is a 50/50 possibility.
Hopefully nothing, as a Sens fan I love seeing this
In all seriousness, here's what I would do.
First, buy out Komisarek. Conolly, Lombardi and Armstrong only have one year each left, IIRC, and quite frankly, you can send them the minors if need bed. A buyout would not be worth it and no one would take them. Komisarek has two years left and a no movement clause. At this point, it's clear he won't work out and it's time to cut the losses and free up some cap space.
Next, I would resign Kulimen and Franson which shouldn't be too much given their performances this season.
Here's where my two big moves come from. Cory Schneider, meet my 3.1 million, 3 year offer sheet. Why 3.1 million? Because that is the maximum I can offer without having to give up a first round pick. All that I would have to give Van is a 2nd as compensation. I really can't see how they would justify spending this much on a backup especially given Luongo's contract. It is a low risk high reward move.
Next, I would trade my third to Nashville for the rights to sign Suter. There is no guarantee he signs for the Leafs, but it's worth a shot at the cost of a third. Again, another low risk high rewards. At this point, with the prospects in the system, the weak free agency class (and the strong one the following year), I stand pat.
I have not been paying much attention to the draft given the Sens' position this year so you'll have to forgive me for not commenting on it.
First, I would attempt to trade Lupul in a deal for Jordan Staal.
I'd make a serious attempt to trade for Brooks Orpik, Kulemin being a key piece in the deal.
Then I would trade Schenn for JVR
I'd offer a package of Macarthur and Kadri to STL for Stewart and Taresenko. Taresenko is a former 1st rounder, huge talent, NHL ready according to Corey Pronman.
If TOR is on the list, I'd go after Lou, offering Liles (Ponder's idea, which makes sense) as the centrepiece of the deal. I'd like to expand the conversation to include Kassian, and I'd offer Kulemin to make that happen.
If EDM would entertain it, I'd offer the 5th, Franson or Armstrong and the 2013 first for this year's first and a good third line prospect like Hartikainen.
The result is a legit 1C with size who is extremely poised and defensively responsible, a big power forward with underrated passing skills who drives the net hard. Also, an NHL ready prospect who jumps right into a top 6 role, a hard hitting, shot blocking D partner for Dion who gets back quickly into sound defensive positions, and hopefully one of Kassian or Hartikainen to patrol on the third line.
Oh yeah, and finally, a legit franchise goalie.
If half of this list comes together, the Leafs are 75% more likely to make it into post season. I'll go out on a limb and say they cut 20 goals off their GAA by adding Lou and Orpik alone.
1. Convince Bell/Rogers to buy Phoenix.
2. Construct one strong roster and a weaker one with whatever is left.
3. Sell the weaker roster to Quebec at a slight discount.

Forget your claims...People who said BB made promises....Blahhhh Blahhh Blahhhh...I said this at the beginning of training camp!!!.. Wilson needed to go into the season with the best players comming out of camp or he was going to get fired!!!! WOW....AM I A GENIUS OR WHAT???
ANY one here think that RC is going into the season without the best players out of camp no matter who they are???
Any one think that RC is going to worry about Players contracts??? or is he going in with the best players who play???
Burke can't build a half decent team so an endless number of fans are suggesting fantasy trades. Good luck with any of those coming to fruition. Burke will be lucky if he can sign one of those stars (UFA) or even trade for one. Maybe he'll try and throw in the 1st round pick. He's good at that, at least.
Face the facts. He's one of the absolute worst GMs in the League. He has screwed this team badly.
I'm starting to be open about trading the #5 pick to get 2 firsts if Faksa or Gaunce are available at #10-#11. As much as I value Dumba or Forsberg, I believe in the ability of Dave Morrison finding this organzation 3 solid prospects inside the top 35 picks. If you scan the lists there will be 3 excellent players inside 35 for certain. Obtaining a 2nd 1st without giving up any assets would be a gift of sorts, but Yzerman or Mcphee may want to move up on some of the prospects that will be available at #5.
It's a gamble since Faksa suffered a recent concussion, but all prospects have risk attached to them. Faksa to me is a more complete player than Galchenyuk and could be a more valuable Carlyle playoff type player he covets. Might be worth the risk. Gaunce could be a Brayden Schenn type player that has thrown the best player off his game in this playoffs.
We may be able to address needs in talent, skill and positional need if we move down without losing anything. Faksa, Wilson, Subban, Frk, Girgensons. Lots of reasons why to move down. Adding firsts to the organization will only strengthen our prospects pool. Will be interesting to see what Burke decides, going to be fun watching him work the draft floor this year.

That leaves roughly 15 to sign 3 players, an elite first liner (6-7 mill + a goon for 4th line, leaving 8ish mill roughly for a couple more guys + room for trades).
Thoughts? What would you do?
you say GONE... but you also bring them back? Also good luck dumping more than 1-2 of LACK

Well I don't think we have any kind of legitimate shot at Parise or Suter, so I'll just write this with the assumption that getting them is off the table.
1 - Draft Galchenyuk. He's got size, he can play physically, he has tons of skill, and is a great two-way player. I've heard many times that he may end up being the best player from this draft
2 - Trade for J. Staal. Kulemin + Schenn should be pretty close to the value they'd want. Staal address size/skill/defensive play/PK. I think he'd make a big difference. Is he the long term #1 C option? No... but hopefully that's where Galchenyuk can step up in a few years.
3 - Trade for Bernier. Franson + MacArthur? Something along those lines may be do-able.
4 - Draft one of Subban or Vasilevski. We never draft high end goalies... not since Rask. Keeping him might have helped this franchise down the line eh?
This upgrades our centre and goaltending positions. Upgrades our PK. Upgrades both the defensive and offensive abilities of our top line. Two years from now you're going from our current set up of small soft centres who aren't very good defensively to having Staal-Galchenyuk-Grabo as your 1-2-3. The PK is also getting an upgrade with Staal (one of the best PK forwards in the league) and in terms of Bernier. The goaltender is the most important PKer, and ours have been absolutely terrible in that regards.
We lose some guys obviously.. but! It also gives guys like Kadri, Frattin, Holzer, Blacker, Colborne, etc a chance to compete in the NHL. All of them should be NHL players, Kadri/Frattin/Holzer are ready for the NHL right now IMO.
Other small moves... try and move Lombardi/Connolly if there are any takers. Komi/Armstrong I think we're stuck with.
Resign-
Nik Kulemin for 3.25 millx 4 years
Matt Frattin for 1.2millx 2 years
Joey Crabb for 750kx 1 year
Cody Franson for 1.7millx 3 years
Ben Scrivens for 900kx 2 years
Marcel Mueller,Ryan Hamilton,Mike Zigomanis,Simon Gysbers,Juraj Mikus,Korbinian Holzer all resigned
Jay Rosehill,Jussi Ryannas, Matt Lashoff,Phillipe Dupis,Mark Fraser,Jeff Finger, all walk away
Trade Schenn(Dont want to but you gotta give to get)Ashton and Holzer to Edmonton for 1st overall
Trade 3rd round and Matthew Lombardi for Cal Clutterbuck
Trade Clarke MacArthur for St.Louis 1st
Trade Colby Armstrong 2nd in 2013 for Loungo
Draft Galchenyuk,Yakupov and Tom Wilson.
Sign Dennis Widemen 3.4 millx 4 years
Sign Paul Gaustad 2.1millx 1 year
Sign Jarret Stoll 2.9millx 2 years

I like most of this, but I just don't think we get some of these players without giving up a little more. Someone like Lupul, Holzer, Ross, or Frattin.
Lupul could be our wildcard for a lot of things. I know he's well liked in TO, but we are so desperate in other positions (goaltending, center, defense, etc).
I also agree that it will be next to impossible to find our #1 center unless a team is in turmoil or a player requests a trade. Drafting is key. Hopefully our scouts and GMz have done their homework.
