you might think its funny, but you have to consider something. for Vancouver to land Iginla it would take a serious overpayment because of the PR factors alone. I wouldn't consider it for less than a 2012 1st, Schneider and a quality cap dump (Ballard). Might be an overpayment, but even that would get the Flames publicly executed.
I'm sure we don't really want Iginla, it was just a hilarious trade to imagine.
1. Division rivals, aka face 6 times a year... very unlikely to make a deal. Even more so a major deal.
2. Salary cap, 'nucks are @ max salary already, there's no way to add 7mil without altering the entire core (or at least trade both Booth and Ballard plus use a cheap 3rd line center/replace with Malhotra). Either way kills the depth on the team.
3. MG builds for short AND long term success... i.e. won't go for a franchise player way pass his prime unless its via UFA. Would cost too many assets and drive down the internal competition that MG has created. Look at all the deals he has made (beside UFA signings) and you'll see almost all of them are both short AND long term. Almost everyone obtain @ the deadline have been resigned (Alberts, Higgins, Lap). Also none of which are 35+.
4. Internal salary structure, no one makes more than the Twins. Reason Kesler took less than market value at the time of his contract. Same with KB3, etc. Max salary = whatever the twins make and MG is unlikely to kill that structure. Its also the main reason Van/Det gets reasonable value contracts compared to most of the league. If the 'nucks take anyone making more than Kesler or the Twins, you can bet Kesler won't be happy and there will be locker room issues.

Why??
Iginla for Schneider works for both clubs. Change the 1st for a salary dump tp CGY and it kick starts CGY rebuild and VAN gets a step closer to the cup.

I agree with this. The fact Iginla's salary is $7.0 million per season for the next two years and the Canucks have zero cap room at this time for this salary Calgary would have to take salary back. This type of deal only happens in the off season and it will be to a marginal contending team that has the cap room to make it work for picks/prospects.

Sedin-Sedin-Iginla
No it absolutely does not. The thought of Iginla ever dawning a Canucks jersey is sickening to every Flames fan (Well...outside of TheGleninator ).
Strictly from a Calgary point of view, your looking at Schneider, Jensen, and a 1st at minimum. It just won't happen, and should not even be discussed.
The Flames biggest need is a young impact forward Vancouver does not have one that would interest Calgary to move their captain for. I know it is an unrealistic idea but a three way trade between Vancouver, Tampa Bay, and Calgary would make alot of sense.
