A Calgary source told sportsnet.ca that Eakins would be given strong consideration for the Flames head coaching position, which vacated when Brent Sutter and general manager Jay Feaster parted ways on Thursday.
I'd feel sorry for him in that case. He'd just be the next guy to be spun through on a team that refuses to rebuild itself. I do think he deserves to coach in the NHL, just would hope it'd be under better circumstances.
the marlies are among one of the top teams in the Ahl ...
Eakins is doing a great job at developing the prospects
Great job developing? Who do we have on the roster, that he's had a hand in developing? Nobody!
And he should have a great record, he has an exceptionally talented team, with tons if veteran leadership. There are alot less talented teams in the ahl with exceptional records.

Very true. People are very quick to give Eakins credit, but he really hasn't proven anything. Management has built a good core of prospects and signed top end AHL guys to help them along.
I don't blame him if he takes it... He was overlooked by the Leafs and deserves a chance to coach in the NHL.
biggest mistake burke made ....panic move hiring carlyle ....couldve just let gordon run with it rest of the year and see if eakins was ready ..he is familiar with the leafs roster and played a style suited to current personal .....now the leafs gotta retool and trade the very assets everyone brags about
i hope eakins gets it and runs with it

Do something in the playoffs then people can talk. I swear people are on Eakins nuts so much.
Its funny, Wilson does well in the season(before coming to the leafs) has poor playoffs and people say he sucks but Eakins,**** no he's a God among men when it comes to coaching.
The Leafs head coaching job is not for rookies. I'd rather have a Randy Carlyle with a Stanley Cup ring. The Leafs will find another Dallas Eakins.
QFT.
People turn their backs very quickly in this city.
James Reimer = Optimus Reim
James Reimer this season after concussion = We need a new goaltender.
Game X: Kessel sucks OMG, Burke you idiot.
The game right after that: Kessel is a franchise player.
Dion Phaneuf sucks.
We need Phaneuf.
Too much crap around here for a rookie coach unless we started totally from scratch. Carlyle was the best coach out there and we grabbed him at the right time.

I agree. However you can't blame people for being hard on Reimer. He's been awful this season.

Ya...Stanley Cup winning coaches grow on trees, real 'panic' move. Eakins won't ever get a shot with the big club, it's not that type of franchise. He will get his shot with a total rebuild team, and he'll be fired once that team matures and needs an 'experienced' coach.
Feaster is going to look at several coaches and has connections to previous coaches, one IIRC who won the Calder Cup and is currently in Switzerland coaching.
Also, they are talking about the Heat coach, but won't discusss the job until after the Heat are out of the playoffs.
I wonder really, how good of a coach is Eakins? It isn't like the Leafs are full of Eakins mentored and groomed youngsters. I don't believe that Eakins is responsible for making NHL players in half an AHL season. Transition to the pros maybe, but only if they had it in them in the first place.
Frattin+Gardiner+Gunnarsson+Kulemin=42 AHL games combined.
Bozak=32 AHL games
I really don't see the huge attraction that some have to Eakins.

Don't get me wrong, I love Eakins but its foolish to suggest hiring a Stanley Cup winner who has proven success as a big mistake.
Throwing a rookie coach to the wolves is a much more dangerous move. Did you not notice how vile the media has been? Carlyle did a bang up job there. Personally I am not a fan of the style Carlyle coaches but its hard to argue with results.
I hope he doesnt take it. Calgary is a bigger mess then we are, itll just be his head next on chopping block (either after a couple failed seasons that hes not responsible for) or when Feaster gets canned.

Not to make any excuses but he's had a "concussion" that was recently documented to be that a supposed problem with the C4 & 5 vertebrae.
and since his neck is consistently "craned" or bent when he's between the pipes, I could see it bugging him. I'll give him next year until I try and pass judgement.
What I find funny was Gionta hit him to start this problem and in a strange twist of, fate blew his bicep out on a shot later on in the schedule effectively ending his season.
