Second that. Do not believe we would take Maatta, if we were to select Murray with the second overall though. I would prefer Hertl with the middle of the first pick in this scenario.

the defenseman around 18 are a lot better then the forwards around 18 imo.. reaching for a forward at the point would be a mistake. we could then address forward needs with the nash trade..
idk so many options.. should be an interesting offseason
I am extremely excited for this draft. We can't screw this one up. Gotta come out with three or four outstanding prospects and make sure we get them to reach their potential.

That is why I would probably go with a forward with our #2 pick.

same here, but you cant be pissed with a murray pick. i wouldnt even really be mad about picking grigorenko due to him playing with an ankle injury.. however it still is a huge gamble, same with galch due to missed development year.
only player im iffy about is forsberg because at some point, you gotta produce.. well see how the u18 finishes out.

Yeah, though I like Forsberg a lot. I am not even against picking a defensemen with both (if we have LA's pick) picks.
It's a toss up for me. I wouldn't be too upset with either Murray or Galchenyuk. Galch may have been injured most of last season, but I think he will be a very good #1 center. A one two punch of Johansen and Galchenyuk. No Grigorenko after his "issues."
Can we please stop talking about who we are going to draft in the #18 position until LA actually loses in the 1st or 2nd round? They get through those rounds and the pick is 27-30.
I thought there was too much penciling in of Yakupov into next year's lineup around here prior to the draft lottery.

Do you see the jackets going with Galchenyuk at the #2 spot ? I heard a radio interview with Galchenyuk yesterday, (speaks very good english) via the web from 590 the fan, here is the link if anyone is interested
It's a toss-up ... it could be any of the four available in that range (assuming Yakupov goes first, Murray, Galchenyuk, Forsberg, Grigorenko)
We'll say 25% for that sake.

It's possible, but I don't think we'll be selecting in that range. We would likely have to trade up to land this player, who will likely go somewhere between 8-15 in the draft.
For what it's worth, I picked the Kings to win the Cup in the preseason ... I really hope I wasn't right
...Especially now that Jeff Carter is playing there.
@DarrenDreger: Follow up to Ryan Murray and team Canada. I do expect he will be asked and will play some exhib games for Can prior to World Champs. #TSN
Talk about improving your draft stock ...
If Edmonton takes Yakupov, Murray has got to be high on our list - if not right at the top.

He dropped to 18th ranked NA skater in the final Central Scouting Rankings. Throw in Forsberg and he is 19th. Throw in TERAVAINEN, TEUVO and COLLBERG, SEBASTIAN and he looks like he could be available in the 15-20 range.
Here's what tsn.ca had to say about him in February
Poised to become the first Latvian-born prospect to be a first-round NHL draft choice. There's no worry about him adjusting to North American life as he's played in the U.S. since he was 15. Slated to attend the University of Vermont next season. Strengths: A smart, all-around player with size and skating ability. Good hands, heavy shot, tough and competitive, can play any style of game. A safe pick, he will play in the NHL. Weaknesses: Some scouts question his offensive instincts and ability to create scoring opportunities. May not be a top-two center at the NHL level. NHL upside: Has been compared to Colton Gillies, but with more offensive upside. The type of player that will help an NHL club win a playoff series by playing a tough, two-way game. May have the intangibles to be a top two centre.

I see "smart player", which prevents any comparison to Colton Gillies. I see Gillies as a less high-strung version of Raffi Torres, which means having a lot of physical tools and not a lot of sense on how to use them.
Gillies with hockey sense would be like Rod Brind'Amour, I think. Gillies, or Girgensons for that matter, without hockey sense would be more like Alex Picard.
I too am hoping for Galchenyuk or Murray, a defenseman like Maata at #17/18, and a goaltender like Dansk or Subban (maybe Vasilevski) at 31.
Anybody else listen to that interview Galch did on the radio in Toronto? Very smart sounding kid. Said he'd like to "play anywhere" so I don't think he'd hold out on being drafted by Columbus.
i like Galch over Murray just b/c a top end forward is what we need most...especially after we trade Nash. The kid seems to have his head on straight and I just don't buy Brass as a top 6 Center after we deal Nash.

Can you give us a bit of a synopsis on what he said? Or was that the only note worthy thing said?
From some of the other sites I am starting to see packages including Nash and both firsts for a #1 goalie among other players and prospects so if that is the case this entire thread would be a for none! But if we pick I would like Galy!
