Well you can't pre-order on ArenaNet, they will ask you to buy the full game (giving you access to all betas and 3 days head start).

If you pre-order from GameStop, you will get it on release, but it won't be on a DVD. They will give you a box with a serial in it, if I remember well, ArenaNet said only the Collector's Edition would come with the game client in disc form, the rest will all be digital downloads.

I've never really understood the fixation on a physical copy for a MMO. I mean... you're tied down to the Internet anyway, to get basic functionality out of the game.

Physical media all the way for potentially perishable SP games. I still have and play games from the early 1990s and even a few from the late 1980s. For a persistent-world online game, though? When it dies, it dies anyway.

This is assuming we aren't talking about the additional swag of a collector's edition, and just game discs versus an account and downloads.

Personally, for games I really love, I prefer the box with the written manual, map, etc.

For GW2, don't really care, still not sure I'll purchase it, but if I do, will be digital only (but not at these rates, the current prices for digital editions in Europe are ridiculous).

Yes, for games where they expend the time and effort, but outside of the simulations with the spiral bound manuals and such, many games no longer produce manuals in physical form anymore. You get a manual PDF on a game disc.

I pre-ordered from Gamestop so that if I don't like it, I can just get my money back.

I'd go with normal personally. Extra $20 for 1 elite skill and a minipet? IDK doesn't sound worth it.

Pre purchased or pre-ordered?

(pre-ordered gets nothing, pre-purchased gets beta access, probably on 20th or 27th April)

Kinda weird so many people pre-purchasing tbh, to me all this ANet stuff with pre-purchasing with no release date smells like something EA would do.

For those of you who still don't know how this game will be played:

A good preview in terms of gameplay.

Apparently this is a list of servers:

Server Name (I'm guessing Oceania):
Piken Square

North America:
Borlis Pass
Henge of Denravi
Sorrow's Furnace
Maguuma
Yak's Bend
Anvil Rock

EU servers:
Kodash
Vabbi
Istan
Blacktide
Kodonur
Gandara

Definitely going to choose Sorrow's Furnace.

Think i'm going to get the digital deluxe edition...

Definitely interested in one-servering with anyone who's up for it.

My new PC wont be ready until the 28th or 29th though so I wont be getting into beta before then.

I'm gonna be trying it on my laptop, GW2 graphics are very accessible, they don't rely on heavy graphics, they're more about the artistic style of their universe. You should check if your system will run the minimum.

Also almost done with my (new) custom watercooled build, should be good to go on the 26th. Don't feel like rushing it for the beta, don't wanna mess up.

Checked and it might... problem is processor is slower than their minimum listed.

Anyways, Pre-bought the Digital Deluxe edition yesterday.

Oh btw servers won't restrict us to play with each other.

If player is on server 1 and I am on server 2, we can both play together when one of us joins the other on their respective server.

However, we cannot play World vs World together, which is a PVP battleground (huge, where over 1000+ players will be battling against each other) that puts a server versus another.

If someone wants to play WvW, they must switch servers with a little fee.

We should still all make our characters on the same server, but it won't be a problem for PvE if we don't.

I think I'll pick this up. I liked RIFT enough, but didn't want to keep paying $15 a month for it. So I'll give this a shot since it has no subs fees.

For those who have pre-purchased (even not, you can still download it all), with this EXE for it: http://cloudfront.guildwars2.com/client/Gw2.exe

Get it ready for this weekend!

It's going anywhere between 250KB/s and 300 and I have a great connection.
