The problem with that though is the weakness of "self policing". Carkner had a statement to make and wasn't taking no for a answer. Boyle had the opportunity to drop his gloves, he didn't so got a beat down. That is how "self policing" has to work.
Agree to a point. You can hit him, go after him without that ********, that **** is the last resort of a hockey player that cannot play hockey. And honestly, the jumping him when he did not want to fight is not even that bad. I could handle that. He got 2 shots in Boyle's face, took him down, sent the message.
The problem is the jump on top after Boyle was own and throwing more haymakers. Who the **** does that? It is garbage and needs to be shown that cannot be allowed. It's cowardly and ****ing pathetic. What a joke, he has no place in this league, go join the MMA you clown Carkner.
EDIT: See Sobotka at the end of the STL-SJS game. He tooled the guy, took him down and left it at that since he understands he the game is played by men, not little *****es.

Totally agree. Carkner sent Boyle a message about roughing up Karlsson in game 1.

Another example would be Ladd. He schooled Hedman, but he let him go and skated away after a while. He didn't keep hitting the guy until someone else had to jump on top of him just to stop it.
I still think Vancouver will come back to win it. Frankly, it's not because Vancouver's great. It's because LA sucks. Just watching them...they're only winning because Vancouver has been doing their best Columbus impression. Match them up against St Louis, Phoenix, Nashville and Detroit in the second round, and I'd bet they get swept handily.
Love seeing the Bruins lose. Love seeing the Blues win. Disappointed to see Ottawa win, but that'll be redeemed if I get to see Chicago lose.
After watching Philly vs Pittsburgh last night, all other hockey just seems boring :S

Wow. Forget that LA was top 3 in record, top 5 in GF/GA post deadline. Forget that that they have the best goalie in the league (if you want tied for best), forget that they have a really deep and talented blueline or great size and speed up front. Forget that they a ton of Stanley Cup experience. Forget that had they played at their post-coaching change pace all season they would be a #1/2 seed. Forget that they have outplayed the President's trophy winner handily two straight.
LA is easily the strongest #8 seed since ANA in 2008. Phoenix is garbage, IMO CHI and PHO are the two worst teams in the West, the only two I cannot see making the Cup final. LA matches up extremely well against STL, one of only like 3 teams to beat them at home this season in regulation. I'd be worried about a DET/NSH matchup, but no chance for sweep.

If you want to get the message across that if you are going to hit the star players you will pay for it, you don't let up there until the linesman rips you away. The goal is blood, bruises, and a couple nights of difficult sleeping. That sends a message loud and clear.
I'm not condoning it but people keep talking about wanting the instigator rule removed. Much more of this would be the result.
Bertuzzi and Weber's fight wasn't a message it was the Wings trying to save face.
Ottawa is doing their best Vancouver impression. I hope someone destroys Karlsson soon. There are so many people on HF that like to sniff his jock. He is a huge whiner and a diver. Nice dive tonight, cries about it but when he see's he's not going to get a call skates down the ice and gets a lucky goal and then fist pumps.
Senator fans want to complain about the Hagelin hit, but Callahan was run head first into the glass, and Neil hit someone from behind.

Yeah. Never give credit to a team that MAKES the other team look bad.
LA a so solid defensively that the Canucks have had trouble getting passes through for decent chances.
My guess is Kings in six.
What a nice Stamkos-style dive by the Yotes Smith. Pretty weak and getting Shaw a five minute misconduct. What a joke.
And, btw, can anyone explain to me why Yotes fans wear those retarted white construction hats at their games?
Shaw put his shoulder into Smith's head...that was not even close to a dive. It was a hit to the head on the goalie, bad hit. I like Shaw and I do believe that goalies should be fair game outside the crease, but that was a dirty hit if it was on a skater, nevermind a goalie.

Yes, it was a clear hit, but IMHO, he did embellish it and sold it like gold.
Let's just agree to disagree on the genuiness of his "reaction".

It wasn't a dive. It was a embellishment. The post hit, laying on the ice as if they will have to call a stretcher until a major is called and then pops up as if nothing happened and no quiet room is needed, was.... Actually I can't put it into words. The refs will remember that and Smith may not get the benefit of the doubt in future games.
As for the hit itself, it looked really ugly. What seems to be ignored though is that Shaw's stick is with two or three inches of the puck when Smith touches it and maybe a half second later the collision occurs. Did Smith know that Shaw was coming, yes. Did Shaw put himself in a vulnerable position just prior to the collision, yes. A goalie should not be playing the puck and expect a cone of protection when a play is that close. Smith had no business being behind the net playing that with a active forchecker coming in.
I'm actually impressed with the tenacity that Washington's playing - 60-70% of the way through the season, I would NEVER have predicted that they could play this type of hockey. They appeared as though they were ready to just give up for the season, and were playing craptastic hockey. Interesting turn around in their game.
